Description
An azu-nah shaman brings a bowl of embers into a sacred cave, where he gently scatters them into the water. The ritual is to honor the four elements of earth, fire, water, and air. Fire is brought to where the other three join, so that all four may be one.... or something. *waves hands mystically* lol. Drew the azu in my sketchbook, inked and scanned him, and then fought bitterly with the cave for, like, four days. *flails* Never again will I do water as a light source!

I find it odd that an Azu-nah, who is mostly flesh, can handle hot embers without flinching. Maybe Shamen are like monks and are capable of that "mind over matter" thing that still eludes me.

Eeeehh. Well, technically they can't. *eyedart* I was originally going to have it be ash and not embers, but that wasn't shiny and happy enough, so I made with the hot glowy effects. We're going to pretend he's throwing the buggers down -really- fast. And his calluses are protecting him in the interim..

Hey, maybe his pawpads are calloused from spreading hot embers for hundreds if not thousands of ceremonies in a row.

Perhaps the Azu-nah have tougher hide than humans, so the callouses don't have to be as thick.

You know.. the story behind the picture just made it that much better.
I like how you made the water kind of reflective and thew reflections on the walls and ceilings, and on the character.

This is very nicely done. You're definitely improving with your backgrounds, and the creature design and anatomy is well drawn. The concept of the picture is also quite intriguing, so overall, i like a lot! Well done.

lol Yeah, I didn't think of that when I was doing the picture. I counter with the obviously contrived and spur-of-the-moment answer that since azu-nah are quadrepeds, they'd have a lot of calluses on their hands. So he'd have a few seconds before it started to hurt.
