Homaru Karina or people like to call her as Professor Karin has accomplished her doctoral degree, married and now she works as senior high school's math teacher and she finally reached her peak of her life. She likes the low profile life and enjoys the times she spend while teaching or having some fun with the other teachers and faculty members. She is notably Shizuka's friend as both are like science, math and stuff. She has been working for this senior high school for 11 years. About 3 years older than the current principal. Thus she is the one of the senior teachers.

Since Mai became the senior high school student, especially her bad math skills, Karina's overall reputation of being a favorite math teacher threatened. She reminds Mai to study the math formulas more but with interesting interactive stuff so that won't torture her brain. She knows that Mai is more likely interested in right brain territory rather than left brain. Mai says that she feels guilty about Professor Karin because her reputation would ruin just because of a such useless student like her. Karina then comforts Mai, saying that her reputations don't matter as she likes low profile life but that doesn't mean that her students must be the ordinary people.
