Description Not really the "first pic of 2013"; this was completed some ages ago before my SAI and Photoshop was gone
A picture of myself supposedly but there are inaccuracies abound (I obviously don't have a desktop like that though) despite my intentions to keep everything about me the same OTL

I love this! It's been a long time since you used thin lines. I think this looks great!

Thanks! C: I'm hoping to make some more pieces with thin lines soon

Does your desk have... an earphone jack?! Your coloring/lineart in this looks somewhat different from usual

FenniMin In reply to Clashe [2013-01-18 00:46:19 +0000 UTC]

XD Nope! That part is made up too haha (but I do have the earphones!)
And you are absolutely correct; the coloring/lineart was actually a result of a pen pressure-less tablet on SAI (with smooth blending gradients done in photoshop). I really, really miss pen pressure but I try to make the best out of it, ha D:

you know, i cannot draw vertically? painting classes with vertical easles always pissed me off, i just cant do it. o.o

off topic though. this is really very cool. i like how it is very subtly surreal. hot coffee-music-love lol. i love the use of colors here too. overall, just very nice and very pleasing to look at. soothing is the word i believe.

I agree; sometimes I would run out of space on those vertical easels and would wish there would be more horizontal room. (One of the best things about making art digitally: being able to change the canvas size whenever you want!) Er, if that's not the reason you don't like vertical easels, I'd like to hear that too? xD

And thanks! I'm really glad I got that subtle surreal-ness/soothing feelings across! I wanted this piece to have some substance so I'm really happy to hear it (the art challenge was simply "draw yourself or your persona", but I figured it'd be boring to just have plain me by itself).

I think its an excellent take?

no, haha, its the position. i cant hold my hand up and draw/paint/whatever. when i do draw, its usually on a flat table, and usually with my face perfectly parallel to the table, about 2 inches away, lmao.

OOoooh, okay YES, that I can agree with wholeheartedly. I feel like drawing/painting this way is a little harder to control even though it's supposed to allow more arm freedom and such. It is fun to draw some free forms and such vertically, but when it comes to say, inking and defining certain things in a picture, I do indeed like it flat on table : o

Oh gods, I cant do anything without what i call microtuning. I will literally sit there and say, oh, idk, draw a face, and decide the curve of the cheek is wrong, and erase a line maybe 5 millimeters long and redraw it a billion times to just microns of a difference. .__. this is why I finish nothing.

Microtuning really DOES make things look better though! Scrutinizing small subtle details like that I think makes a wonderful artist : D

you know, i agree, but i get so caught up in these, my composition as a whole goes askew.

That would in fact be a very nice type of desk to have! And if your hair is accurate, you have nice hair too xD.
Is that supposed to be coffee or tea in that cup?

FenniMin In reply to Magedark9 [2013-01-17 06:30:37 +0000 UTC]

I wanted to pretty much portray that even though I love using the computer, I incorporated this computer "desktop" with more traditional objects in order for it to not appear to be some "brain drain/ for creativity", but rather as another good medium of my pieces that admittedly does take up my life, but I like to think also enhances it. Or something like that haha I think I am rambling at this point! Also yes my hair at the very least is accurate (when straightened anyway; it's actually naturally wavy), so thank you. XD

To me it's coffee, but I also really love green tea. It can be whatever you choose for it to be in terms of what's in the cup!

It's a very nice piece, almost quaint. It makes it seem like you can relax better than I can! Is purple your favorite color, or is it just coincidence that it's your jacket and chair?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FenniMin In reply to Magedark9 [2013-01-18 05:43:20 +0000 UTC]

That, is a coincidence! (I do have a purple cardigan, and well the chair is actually black but it is shaded purple here) For some reason, pink purple and orange are usually one of my top my favorite colors to work with when it comes to making art (not necessarily always combined, even though it is so here!) My favorite colors are actually blue and red.

I find it a great coincidence that mixing red and blue ends up with purple xD.

Oh, yeah you are right about that! XD Purple was a HUGE coincidence though, since I drew at the time exactly what I was wearing lol.
