Yevgeny Rodionov (May 23, 1977 - May 23, 1996) was a Russian soldier who was taken prisoner and later executed in Chechen captivity for his refusal to convert to Islam and go over to the enemy side. The circumstances of his death have garnered him much admiration throughout Russia, and even prompted calls for his elevation to sainthood.For more information:

Evgeny Rodionov not yet canonized. His reverence is popular, without prior arrangement.
He is a local saint in Serbia.
