Seiren's early childhood was idylic. Her mother and father were both caring, and sheltered her from the brutal truths of why they did not talk about her mother's family, or why her older brother did not share the same father as the rest of them. Instead, the avantgarde painter and his soloist wife raised their children to appreciate the arts, and for many years, life was good for them. Then a shadow from Kaiyou's past visited her new family. Members of the criminal group who had killed her first husband kidnapped her youngest three children, Shie, Seiren, and Chiyoko.

For a brief period the siblings were shipped away from their home in Radiant Harbor together, but after that they were quickly seperated as different shady groups bought them for various reasons. Seiren ended up in Sekei, an entertainment house made for those working and existing on the wrong side of the law, and while her beautiful voice kept her protected from the worst demands, she was still property, and punishment for forgetting that fact was harsh. Still, it was life, and one that Seiren endured for years as she refined her singing voice and picked up various genteel skills to keep herself valued.
Then one day, she was informed by an 'older sister' that night the house had been rented out by particularly prominate partrons who coincidentally were the ones responsible for her kidnapping. Grief and rage bottled up for years broke free, and Seiren devised a quick plot. She warned the few good souls in the establishment to step out for the night, or flee if they could. Then she stuffed her ears full of wax and cotton until she could hear not a single thing, and waited for her turn to perform for those who had ruined her life. Oh, and how she sang when it was her turn. Seiren sang as if it was the last time that she would, knowing that it might, for amongst songs extolling the glories of quick wit and devious minds, she wove the notes of a Perish Song. She continued to sing even as delighted expressions became twisted with pain and Sekei's guests collapsed. It was not until the last one had dropped to the group and she stopped, reeling from what she had just done and reveling in the miracle that none of the criminals had come close enough to harm her.

She immediately began taking out her makeshift earplugs when a stranger entered. When he spotted her, Seiren was certain he would kill her -she had spent enough time entertaining cutthroats and assassins to know their type, but he didn't. Instead, he reminded her of the time they'd met at a festival, she the 'younger sister' to a more accomplished artist at the time, and offered to help her escape, to find her home. Never had there been a clearer choice put before her.

Their escape was not a clean one, for they were pursued by those who wished harm on her, and those who wished to kill him. During this choas, the two ran into Shie, who was fleeing their own troubling circumstances. Somehow from this chaos, the three escaped, and made their way to Radiant Harbor, only to discover that the Zetsumi home had been sold by Seiren and Shie's parents as they took Kensei to try and find their missing children. With no home in Radiant Harbor, Seiren, Shie, and Banri worked their way across the Sun Empire trying to find traces of the other Zetsumi family members until they encountered proof of Kaiyou and Taishi's death. Unwilling to go any further, the trio look around and then settled in the cold village of Gale Springs.

Gale Springs has treated Seiren well. She has earned enough recognition that she pays her keep and more through song, and having recovered at least one of her siblings and being free from Sekei, Seiren is enjoying life more than she has had in years. Seiren also has started a growing network of musicians and singers as she's always interested in finding new people to perform with. She also made tentative friendship with those caring for various shrines and temples, such as Hamasaki Kimako. Her first impression was that the kommo-o is slightly a nice but slightly intimidating figure, but also believes it possible that she might be able to trust the monk should things go terribly wrong in her life once more.

Seiren has an umbrella with wave patterns that she only uses when it is sunny out. Most assume it's to help keep her skin pale, the reality is she just doesn't like harsh sunlight, and a bit for the aesthetic.
Has a tattoo of water, waves, and lotus blossoms covering her right shoulder, done by Shie.
Is also skilled in formal dance, tea ceremony, ikebana, arranging and dressing others in fancy and formal clothing, and putting other peoples hair up thanks to her time in Sekei.
Plays a passable shamisen, but it is not a well practiced skill since it always made much more sense to have her sing.
