Description It seems like ages, since I last posted up an artwork.

I have been busy learning the brand new interface of Blender 2.8.

It has changed a lot, to the previous releases. So, I have been patiently familiarizing myself, with the new locations of functions; that have since been moved to different places on the interface. This has been really frustrating at times. But, on a positive note; there are lots of exciting new features that came along with 2.8. Which gives me a greater opportunity to increase my knowledge and skills further of 3D modelling and composition.

This is my first Blender artwork created in Blender 2.8, using the Cycles renderer and filmic feature.

To inspire me to create this picture; I followed a wonderful tutorial by Wayward Art Company. The link is below:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrMee2…

In previous times, I have usually created landscape scenes, by unwrapping the mesh and placing a texture onto it. And, then adding a normal map. This tutorial gave me the opportunity to try a landscape using displacement and procedural textures. So, it showed me; how to add sandy beaches to the shore line and the white foam you get in the sea; along with applying separate textures to different parts of the landscape.

I chose to slightly move away from the tutorial, by making my own scene around sunset time. And, I added the helicopter, for extra detail; and made my island look more green to the one in the tutorial. I found this an excellent learning experience to add to my skillset.

I think the first Jurassic Park film inspired me Cerulea-blue. It was either going to be a boat, or an helicopter. As I had a few pictures with land and boats in them; I chose to go ahead with the helicopter. It does remind me of the scene, where they are just arriving on the Island though; and the gentleman says. 'Welcome to Jurassic Park'. Although, the island isn't the same! LOL!

Have a beautiful Thursday!

Oh, why don't you make a dinosaur next?

fev-rocks In reply to Cerulea-blue [2019-08-29 17:15:57 +0000 UTC]

I'll certainly consider it Cerulea-blue.

I have actually made two dinosaur pictures already, which are in my gallery. I did once try to make a triceratops, as well, but it was sadly an epic fail. It was modelling the head part, which went wrong for me! LOL I guess I could make a Brontosaurus instead.

I currently play a VR game called 'Everybody's Golf'. Later in the game, you can unlock a dinosaur course. It is really cool to see the dinosaurs scattered around the course, while you are playing golf. Quite inspiring how they modelled the dinosaurs, in that game! It does feel a little like Jurassic Park! Ha! Ha!

Hope you are enjoying your day!

That is very successful your work and with beach and foam, well done my friend!

I had the 2.8 last year but that was not optimal, I'm thinking about testing the new fully functional one now.

Thank you very much, my talented friend. I was pleased how it came out. A lot of it is controlled with Color Ramp nodes. In the past, it hasn't really been my favourite node, as I couldn't fully understand it. But, I see now, how you can use it, to effect masks and colours. So, I am glad I gave the tutorial a try.

I think the new 2.8 is more polished; now that it is the official release. I stayed clear of it, when people were moaning about the interface. Because I knew, if I waited; that a lot of the problems would be sorted, by the time, it was released.

So, I think you should find 2.8 more enjoyable; once you have got used to the new interface. I am still learning a bit.

Have a great Thursday!

Thank you very much, my talented friend, for your lovely feedback.

I am glad you liked it. Yes, it is a great tutorial! I usually hate using the ColorRamp node; as it confuses me at times. But, I saw how useful it can be, to split up the textures and also make masks from it. So, I learned a lot by trying again!

The gentleman who creates the tutorials also has a great one on creating a tornado and animating it. I was going to make an artwork featuring a tornado, as I haven't tried that before; and it was an opportunity to learn more about the particle system and physics. But, I had a problem with it down the line. So, that picture is currenly on hold, for now!

Have a lovely Wednesday!

Ha! Ha! Nice one!

I think my bake might have gone wrong, while doing the tutorial. I thought that once you baked out an animation; that it stayed saved and you could just slide down the timeline to whatever you wanted to keep, as an image. But, for some reason, it is like it didn't save the information properly and just replayed it again from scratch. Which made my computer stick a lot. I'm sure I will work it out though. Just a learning experience! LOL!

Have a good evening!

If you bake on disk it should remain

fev-rocks In reply to SilentLadyGTA [2019-08-29 09:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for clarifying that. Although I clicked on the bake button; I guess I must have missed some other thing under the Bake features, so it didn't hold the data properly. I will have to try again, in the future.

Wishing you a great Thursday!

You must bake in a directory of your project. Sometimes if you dont specify your bake directory it bakes in temp directory. But temp may be cleaned
