This whole happy ending is rather contrived.
I can see Braeburn crushing on Derpy, and I can see Derpy being in love with Carrot Top this whole time without letter her know.
I can't see Carrot Top, living with Derpy and family all this time, and not realizing she has a crush on Derpy. She's seen Derpy with her kid before, and she's spent a lot of time together with Derpy. Why does this particular display of maternal affection make her suddenly fall in lust?

Because she obviously never really WATCHED Derpy and Dinky together like that until this point in time. It wasn't until she was trying to force someone not to like Derpy when her true feelings finally started to coalesce.
...or maybe I'm just making excuses.
I dunno, don't try to think about it too hard I guess? The point of the thing was that it was supposed to be kinda stupid.
