Description
Tavros Nitram, the Cowherd enjoys the simple things in life. Most of all, he loves his job, raising livestock in underground caves to provide the island of Alternia with a source of inexpensive but nutritious meats. However, his idyllic farm was raided by a very hungry dread pirate, Vriska Serket, and he lost his legs in the ensuing battle. In exchange for a herd of cows, reclusive blacksmith, Equius Zahhak, built Tavros a motorized wheelchair and extendable jousting lance to protect his flocks in the future. No matter what, he doesn’t let his disability bring down his cheerful, child-like, demeanor. But everything would be so much cooler if he didn’t have to grow up.

In this universe, steam power (much like nuclear power) was invented during war that destroyed the earth’s surface. Thus, people created great engines to lift islands of arable land into the sky. This resulted in two classes of people: those who live on the sky islands and those who power the steam engines that keep it afloat. Body modification with steam-powered accessories has become the norm to help people survive with their minimal resources.
