Description It's a slow week, as I'm applying for jobs left and right . I thought I'd get this out of the way before it sits in my Sta.sh too long.

Basically, the above drawing is a design update for my kirin kaiju (originally named Twilight Sparkle Qilin), the lineart of which is already in my scraps folder. I mentioned on the design sheet that she takes more inspiration from giraffes than horses now, which makes more sense because horses weren't really connected to kirins in Oriental folklore, but giraffes were. I can't help but think of that Impossibly Tall Creature from the Mist movie when looking at her, which is a reminder that I really need to see that movie soon. BTW, I moved the long chin barbels to the back of the jaw based on someone's suggestion, and made the replacement chin barbels shorter. I'd put up the version with the long chin barbels in the scraps for comparison, but the original lineart has them so I don't feel like doing that now.
I consider it a smart move to ditch the green color scheme, since I already have one green monster in the main group. However, I noticed that I didn't have any monsters with a red or orange color scheme, nor did I have any with fire-based abilities, so I decided to combine them both and make my kirin kaiju a fire-breathing, pyrokinetic giraffe. To go with this, I looked up a few Chinese goddesses as a means of giving her a new name (I imagine the Oriental peoples would name her after one of their goddesses, since giant monsters would be associated with divinity in their folklore). The solar deity Xihe was the only one that came remotely close, but the difficulty of pronouncing Chinese names led me to use the translation, "harmonious breath", which became Harmonia, fitting for the kind-hearted nature of kirins in myth. Her Twilight Sparkle-esque temperament remains - Harmonia is still the smartest of the main group, and she's not going to let anyone forget that fact.

She looks a little haggard, but I feel like it adds to her as a character. Nobody would expect her to go all Dorothy Ann on their ass, which makes her a little more interesting. It also gives her a bit of a Catoblepas feel, which I enjoy.
I do feel like her eyes could be a bit bigger, though. As-is they make her look more like an animal and less like a magical [?] monster. Plus, the skin around them is distracting, and they get lost in her brow, and the rest of her face really.
That said, she is much more distinct, and an excellent ungulate kaiju.
