Description Premise: I've started developing my personal Fighting Game Original Characters (that was soon changed in an "All female" Fighting Game after some suggestions) based on the following archetypes bluerelativity.deviantart.com/… enhanced with some pretty costructive discussions that were born when I posted the same topic on FIGHTING-GAME-FANS

Here's my female counterpart and vision of the Old Man archetype.
Background
Just like characters like Gouken and Heiachi, she's almost an "alpha version" of the main Hero aesthetically and move wise, and in the past had a path similar to the one she's actually started. Her purpose, is to teach the hero how not to make the same mistakes she did, and how to survive in the Citadel.
Story
She was a gladiator just like "Blue", and just like her she tried to escape and succeeded, just to find herself in an even worst place.
She survived many years, helped by her fighting skills and her "kunai gauntlets" (I'll find a better name soon, promise), an ancestor of the fire gauntlets used by our main protagonists.
She's the first "good" character our heroines meet, and the first one to teach them the basic rules to survive the Citadel.
Fighting Style
Rudimental mechanical devices able to shoot spiked chains to hit enemies from distance, and recall them back at will, the kunai gauntlets belong to an age where the Slave Drivers were still experimenting with the deadly tools they equipped the gladiators with to make their battles even more gruesome, and they were soon replaced by other, more perfectioned devices. So our old lady is somewhat one of a kind, being the only human being in the Citadel, to possess such weapons. This makes her the only long range character in the whole cast, with her ability to hit with her chains at distance making up for her lack of projectile attacks. With time she developed an original fighting style with her chains, involving also her feet and legs, making the first fights against her always a surprise. The basics around which her style is build still brings resemblance with the main char's style, though, being their background and their training during youth so similar.

Thanks to crazycool124 for suggesting there was a lack of long range characters in my list, hence making me struggle to develope the background for one of them

Interesting concept, weapon kinda makes me think of Scharlachrot from the Arcana Heart series. *shakes fist at my nemesis in the 3rd game* lol The description kinda expands upon the game's world too.

You never cease to learn something here, I never heard about that lady, sadly! I checked her and, other than having an amazing design, she actually seems to share a similarity with my char's weapons indeed (I couldn't manage to find a gameplay video of her, but from illustrations I see that seams pretty similar as a concept).
I HAD to give her that kind of weapons because I don't like supernatural and magic elements mixed with realistic environments like mine... so with the introduction of the "gauntlets" in general, I could justify more or less all the fighting styles.
I'll give you a little anticipation that could spoil some little bit of the story... basically the characters wearing a variation of the gauntlets are the following:
The Heroine and her Nemesis (since they were former gladiators)
The Palette Swap (though she had her damaged during the escape, so her "shoryukens" have less range but are slightly more powerful)
The Old Woman (as above)
The Hard Hitter (I'm not telling anymore about her now, except that she made members of her own crew to build a replica of those "legendary" gauntlets she heard around were used in the Prison, but they came out no way near to the original ones. Anyway, she liked them a lot since, while not being able to actually shoot fire, they caused explosions with the impact, hence making her able to "enhance" her punches with firepower)

So kinda like Ralph's punches (KOF not Simpsons ), very nice, should be interesting to see her. And it's good to have a consistent design theme like that, nothing wrong with mixing stuff per se, but I think it shows faith in your concept to have it reach across the board with the designs, like with your commitment to a realistic feel.

www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…  You can see the character I mentioned in action in pretty much every other video, kicking my ass from pillar to post. XD

I only knew Kira (that should also be a grappler, if I'm not wrong) as iconic character from Arcana Heart, I never managed to play the game and these characters are new to me, but they seem to have some original and beautiful design behind!
Scharlacrot seems to have tons of tools and devices, but yes, her chains are something similar to what I had in mind!
Yes, I had Ralph in mind as he's one of my favorite characters from SNK and I wanted to make something similar! Even the character will look more or less like a female version of him... if you check my last deviation I quickly made a character for a Jam (the one on the right of course) and she'll look pretty similar to my "Hard Hitter" (the red bandana is an obvious homage to Ralph )... I basically "re-adapted" her for an urban context, but I think it's pretty safe for me to say they will share most features.

Indeed, mixing stuff is not wrong... I appreciate who manages to do so in a convincing way (and I actually love a ton of stuff that mixes fantasy, sci-fi, realism and everything else all together). I like it when I'm watching/playing it, it's just somewhat a "limit" I have when I'm the designer. But it's actually something that makes things more challenging and makes me end up with results I like a lot! How to say... if you have limits and can't go past specific boundaries, you're forced to think and reason a lot more, hence to work more, and that's a good thing if you ask me!

Kira's definitely one of my favorites, though that 1080 command grab is brutal to do on ANY controller lol, but I think the game is really underrated because a lot of people can't get over their dislike of certain aspects of the character design. Me, I like 'em a lot and I love how the game plays. Scharlacrot's weaponized mecha thing is actually not part of the character itself, but an arcana you could choose to use as any character, the chain weapon being tied to her always, so I think of it first when I think of her. lol

Ralph always appealed to me since I first played KOF, I even dig his super buffed out KOF XII and onwards look. He's probably my favorite from all iterations of the Ikari team, I actually had the original Ikari Warriors on my Amiga 500, as an aside, though Leona's very cool too.

Oh well I can barely perform a 180 move without an arcade stick, so I understand that must be a nightmare to do with a joypad!
If I had to find a flaw in the design, would be that it's a little too much stereotypical, but 1) I think it's pretty much intentional 2) it's pretty hard to find a fighting game that's not stereotyipical, and after all we're all still playing and enjoying Street Fighters that's pretty much the KING of stereotypes.
Oh, I knew about Arcanas but not that they could take an actual shape (I mean, I thought they had an impact on damage/defense/speed factors and maybe influenced the lighting effects of the moves, not that they were actual moves)

Leona is one of my favorite characters ever and really one of a kind! I loved her design from '96 till the latest installations... and Ralph was just a badass. What I liked the most about the Ikari team was each of the three having his own well defined role and peculiarities, and you had to master at least the basics of three extremely different styles to play them all three! I digged Clark for being a grappler that didn't have much in common with the usual grapplers around (ok now he's super buffed as well, but back in the days he wasn far from being the biggest of the cast, he wasn't a wrestler etc)

Thank you! I really wanted to add a lot more details to make her even more "worn out" and toughened by the battle, but I had little to no time to draw this and I had to seize it on paper (actually screen) pretty fast. So this is very unfinished... I'll update it soon!
Thank you for your interest in my original character! I'll give a shot at your page!

Cool and thanks. I know what you mean about the whole not having much time thing. I think most of us go through that here and there.
