Description Marty Feldman, a comedy staple on both sides of the Atlantic in the 1970’s, sandwiched between two big men in the 1970 British film Every Home Should Have One. The story is that the film’s director was hard pressed to find enough fat men for an important scene and his casting predicament was spotlighted in a national newspaper. The result was hundreds of phone calls from across the country. The film company collected fifteen men of sufficient heft including George Macaree (left) at 35 stone (490 pounds). Bernard Blackman on the right was certainly no slouch in the weight department but his girth definitely paled in comparison to Macaree’s impressive physique. After the film Macaree was frequently sought out by the British press no doubt because he proclaimed himself Britain’s fattest man. A 1978 press photo depicted him at an even more impressive 40 stone (560 pounds).
