I don't know if it's just me and I don't know if it's even what you intended, but when I saw this, it quite literally made my breath catch in my throat and immediately brought tears to my eyes. Completely involuntary. And not only that, but with those came this ache in my heart so intense it made me press a hand to my chest, as if that would make it go away. And it wasn't even until this point, when I physically touched my hand to my chest, that I kind of snapped out of it a little and thought, "Oh, yeah, you need to breathe." The emotion is so, so intense in this piece. I have never had that kind of reaction to a piece of visual artwork in my entire life, and it happened all at once, so quickly. I have only ever been made literally breathless by three things in my life: this, an absolutely beautiful poem, and a very large dog that knocked me over when I was, like, eight.
The initial reaction was the strongest, but I can't help but have that same reaction every time I look at it. Please understand that I am not exaggerating at all. And this absolutely baffles me, you know? But it's baffling in, like, the best way.
sorry this was so long lol

What draws my eye more than the tragedy in the center, is the face of the abductor. No pleasure. No anger. No expression. Rather than an impassioned barbarian reveling in the berserk glee of looting, he seems completely disassociated with what he's doing. He demonstrates a cold, practiced professionalism, unaffected by the chaos of battle. That is somehow scarier. Well drawn, and well done.

Thank you!! And yes that professionalism is exactly what I wanted to capture. It was more about him doing his duty than it was about portraying him as the bad guy. Maybe there's a glance that shows that he is a bad person, but the way I see it is him having to constantly go trough these tragedies, seeing people die on both sides kinda gives him the experience and knowledge that it would happen regardless of him doing the duty or someone else. So in his mind he is possibly doing this out of loyalty and maybe of a hope for a greater good.
