Description
Until about fifty years ago, Zigen was considered a respectable military power.
Then came the second Darnstadt War.
The disastrous result of Zigen's troops not only marked the rise of Reiten as a power within the Free States, but at the same time the collapse of Zigen as a military force to be reckoned with.

Zigen failed to defeat Reiten in any pitched battle (while he did achieve some success against the federal and Haermark armies), and saw his capital Zigestadt occupied by Reiten's troops.
The then prince, Vital, had to abdicate leaving power to his son and the army of the principality was practically disbanded.

However, Zigen did not completely lose its military tradition. During the Emperor's War, the rebuilt army of the principality fought quite well against the Tauredian troops and participated in the Battle of Frinaubusen, where the Taured army was stopped by the joint effort of the Free States and their allies.

The current ruler, Paul, has not entirely given up dreams of military glory, but fears a confrontation with Reiten.

The soldiers wear a fairly modern uniform, which has replaced the shako with a stiff kepi, to aid aiming.
Likewise, the uniform has been simplified, lightening it of the various trappings of Tauroid fashion.
In this aspect they are very similar to the soldiers of Balmik, who in fact drew inspiration from the uniforms of Zigen.
