Description The Galilean armed forces are essentially divided into two major branches: ground forces and aerospace forces.
The ground forces can operate in at least two contexts: on planetary surfaces (or within space habitats or colonies protected by domes) and in space (conquering or defending military stations or other "small-scale" installations).
Technically, the Galilean army is a volunteer army because, although conscription is mandatory, combat roles are not. Therefore, wielding a rifle and going into battle is entirely voluntary.
However, in a highly militarized society like Galileo, where the military and military-related occupations are highly prestigious, non-combat roles are less socially valued and provide less access to a range of benefits that combat roles offer.
Consequently, many individuals inevitably choose to serve in combat forces.

Regular soldiers are a constant and ubiquitous presence in every city of the empire and occupied territories. Whether marching in parades through the streets of the capital or manning checkpoints at the borders of terrestrial domains, regular soldiers are the backbone and the public face of the empire.

Regular soldiers wear a brown uniform made of crystal polymers, reminiscent of 20th-century uniforms. The helmet, usually accompanied by a visor and gas mask (for service on Mars or in certain areas of Earth), is a modified version of a pre-Nemesis Earth helmet, most likely the Swiss M18 model.

he standard-issue weapon is typically a rifle or a submachine gun. In the image, the soldier can be seen holding an FFSMAR-296 "Herodotus" assault rifle. The standard-issue assault rifle of the Galilean army on Earth.
