Description
This mouth study is mainly of psychotic smiles. My reference was Alucard from "Hellsing".All done in pencil, shaded heavily.
Turned out rather well if I do say so myself.

its been awhile since i've acutally commented on artwork on da... nice mouths, they seem to be based on a creepy character so i guess thats why they all look completely evil, or maybe thats just my impression when i see the vampire teeth mixed with smiles and long skinny mouths with thin lips. are vampires supposed to have thin lips like that? very nice shading, its similar to a 3d look. yes i said similar, im mean hehe. my only problem with your mouths is WOW they must have taken FOREVER to draw! or not forever, but at least a matter of hours. infinate things can be done in a matter of hours, but you chose to draw mouths. i bet actually it took you 20 minutes. when it comes down to it, this reminds me of fanart, and fanart is nearly illegal on deviantart hehe. your other art has bigger lips than those, i wonder what you were trying to acomplish by drawing this image. its a great image, it seems perfect in its style, but why was it made... i guess its possible you like the anime so you would naturally be inspired by it. lips... i've noticed you stick to what you know, but do you ever go way outside your comfort zone and attempt to draw things other than people? maybe right now you have no interest in that. youre good at making costumes for your characters. i see a few environent backgrounds in your drawings, i wish i could see more interaction between your characters and their backgrounds. its your art, and youre a talented artist. and i heart you. -royce

well i wanted to learn to draw insane smiles and such cuz uhhh i find them oddly hilariouse. and i have a few insance characters of my own that i have trouble makeing good expressions for. and since i had Hellsing handy... i popped it in watched a few episodes, picked a few my favourite Alucard expressions and then got to work. so i suppose in a way if COULD be classified as fan art, but it's not meant to be. you learn to do your own work, by studying the work of others and stuff in real life and then adapting it...or just plain experimenting....(but jeez who'd want to do it the hard way XD)
and yes. thin lips help with the insane feel. as well as wide mouthes that take up half the face...for the most part that is. thick lips work well on evil vamp babes who are a wee-bit too kill happy.
mmm yes i was rather impressed with how well i pulled off the shading. it looks to have an oddly realistic tone to it, but only vaguely. and it took a couple of hours.
and yes. i DO tend to stick to what i know.(i like my comfort zone as much as the next person!) i'd rather wait to learn to do stuff i'm unsure of until i'm in an art class. and i'm not paying for all the paper i'd use up^_^ and i'm trying to do more backgrounds, cuz i've noticed how uhh...just plain bad things look without them.

....i don't remember anyones birthday*feels sheepish*....that's including my own half the time!
i was trying to draw Fish a few nights ago, but NOTHING, i couldn't think of ANYTHING! no pose, no facial expression, no nuthin. it was depressing. and then i started getting distracted by everything, so i just popped in Hellsing and watched it, and then listened to music, and then play Legend of Mana. so i'll get to work on it SOMETIME....just not sure when exactly....
it'll have to be a late Birthday present! *feel sheepish again*
