Whenever it's my mum's birthday or mother's day, I always end up drawing our two cats, Chester and Smudge in some form. It being my mum's birthday, I drew them as kittens, using a reference from when they were about 7-8 weeks. So yeah, here they are! It took around 4 hours, 2 hours on each cat, though SmudgeΒ (the tortoiseshell)Β probably took a bit longer. I used oil pastel for these two and cleaned them up in photoshop, softly erasing the edges and getting rid of those pastel smudges and stuff. Oh man, every time I use oil pastel I fall in love with it a bit more. Just the way the colours blend... Oh man, I love it. Since I have long-ish nails I'm able to scrape away some of the pastel to reveal layers of colour underneath which makes doing fur highlights and whiskers really easy and satisfying. Hot damn.
