In BF4, like other installments of the series, the support class is intended for resupplying teammates and provide suppressive/overwhelming firepower. While the BF4 game design allowed what would be previous incompatible weapon classes, the support was still defined by using light machine guns and shotguns. The eventual added suppression mechanic (in Battlefield 3, the predecessor to Battlefield 4) further aided the usability of a class with a light machine gun. Support also had gadgets such as a XM25, claymores, and a remote-controlled M224 mortar.
