Description I just played Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I couldn't stop. Now I need the diabolical box.

Anyway, at present I've gotten kinda tired of drawing focused mostly on the people, and am really really more interested in settings, interesting environments. All the ideas I've had lately that I like are mostly about the setting. Also, I don't want to keep drawing only just pretty, pointy people, and Prof. Layton gave me lots of inspiration for folks with double chins, big noses, wrinkles, all that good stuff!

This setting was inspired by a picture in the house of a music teacher I used to work for, but it turned out quite different from that. This is more warm dusty late afternoon sunlight; that was more fresh air late morning sunlight. I might try again sometime to get something with the latter feel.

I experimented with laying down ink washes in yellow, red-brown, and periwinkle blue all over first, and then markers over that.

The title is reference to a piano-including puzzle from another game, which ~PallidaPapillio pointed out.

Oh what a charming illustration! It's a wonder I hadn't happened upon it until now. It's such a delightful scene with the Professor at the piano and Luke just scribbling away. There's a very pleasant, leisurely feel to this. And I really like the way you did the lovely sunset lighting, and yet still have the more shaded portion of the room where the light's influence is less pronounced. The spacing of the keys is very well done, and it must've gotten pretty tiring doing all those different books. Nice work on the open window and the translucent curtain too. I really like this one!

Thank you very much for such a nice and detailed comment, especially the bit about the lighting: the ink washes I mention in the description were what gave the light and shaded areas, and it was one of my first pictures where I used this technique, which I've found very valuable again and again. Thank you!

... So I'm not the only one who imagines Layton being able to play the piano ^^.

Wow, I love the lighting, it looks so peaceful.

Thanks! It's a puzzle game- brain teasers and math-with-a-trick-to-it and such, but it also has a complex plot.

It's for DS, actually.

Oh, well, let's see. I have only read through vol 14, so some future things could change my thoughts and I would ask you not to reveal anything past that. I think he's pretty cool... my sister reeeally likes him. The nature of his bond with Watanuki would probably be the main thing that you need the opinion on... It's hard to say why he cares about him. I think it started with Doumeki just being the sort who'll go along with things other people want to do, even if sometimes making a bit of a grumpy fuss about it, and in that going-along Watanuki kept ending up in mortal peril, so Doumeki would save him because he would do so for anyone. As things went on I think it became kind of a brother thing, with each regarding the other as having an annoyingness that brothers often do. And I think Doumeki admires Watanuki's constant willingness to sacrifice himself for others, even while it makes Doumeki very angry at him. And he likes to annoy Watanuki, not in cruel way but again in a very siblingesque way, and he really likes his cooking. I might say that Doumeki's appreciation for Watanuki's cooking is another way he admires Watanuki's total self-giving. Doumeki's a very matter of fact guy, who feels strongly but doesn't talk about how he feels, not because of some repressive issue but because feelings are put to better use in action, he thinks, and not even thinking that consciously but just doing so. But that not-talking about emotional states probably makes others, and the readers, not sure what/ whether he feels stuff at all. I think he reminds me of my dad in that way.

I would say, with total disregard and contempt for the yaoi interpretation, that he does love Watanuki. At the very latest by the time of the falling-out-of-the-window, and probably earlier. It's utterly not a homosexual thing -even if CLAMP mean it as such, then they're not writing it convincingly. What it IS written convincingly as is a sort of brotherly, sort of friend, sort of comrade thing, with alot of self-giving (the heart of love) that includes both an admiration and disapproval of the other's self-giving, with a sort of sense that he (Watanuki) can't take care of himself, and so needs watching out for.

Mm. You know one thing I like alot about Xxxholic is how Watanuki is so loved by different people in such a genuine ways. Anyway, that's my thoughts on Doumeki at this point; I might have stuff to add/change once I've read more.

Uh huh. It's good to know if they did mean it that way it'd be clear by now, so's I dun hafta worry.

Uh huh! They have a great dynamic.

I think I prefer Xxxholic in general; like you say it's more personal, and it also has a lot of everyday sort of stuff, which I love. Tsubasa is a lot more action super action oriented, which I'm not all that interested in. The Tokyo arc of Tsubasa was awesome but then shortly thereafter it got so terribly confusing that it couldn't have any kind of emotional effect on me except confusion.

^_^

Yup, but they're dynamic enough to give all the male presence needed, I think. ^_^

Uh-huh!
Ahh, I forgot about Haruka-san D: Shame shame.
I gotta say that the girls that try to pair him and Watanuki are the strangest. He's old enough to be his grandfather, for crying out loud! I wonder if they'd do that if he looked his age in the dreams, huh? Pffff.

But he isn't a customer- at least where I'm at. Is that a spoiler there then?
UGGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! That's horrible!!! Why take a nice profound paternally mentory relationship and try to turn it into something so twisted??? What is WRONG with them???

Umm...well, no ^^ It isn't...did I imply that he was?
And I agree, it really is horrible D: It seems that a fair amount of yaoi fangirls have the inability to see anything other than a sex-related love between two men, provided that they are good-looking enough *rolls the eyes*

Ah okay. XD
It's disgraceful. Reducing everything to sex. I'd almost feel sorry for them- being unable to appreciate profound non-sexual loves- if I weren't so mad at them.
