This is just a concept drawing to figure out a design for a celebration dress for my character Matutina, and I was going to put it in scraps, but I liked it so much that I wanted it to be a deviation, so I put together a background made with a tracing of a rubbing I did of a depression glass plate.I like how the dress design came out, and I like how she looks. It's my first drawing of Matutina that's satisfied me, done justice to the image in my mind. You see so many golden-haired girl characters in pink and blue, but I think blond hair goes really well with green clothes (a la Link ^^ ) so that's what I did. ^_^ There's even a bit of flower language- I am becoming addicted!

I love the renaissance-y feel of the entire picture. The dress is so well balanced and isn't overly detailed, nor is it too simple. The character herself is quite lovely, the serene expression and curly hair makes the picture glow with an innocent sort of light. The use of yellows really brightens everything, good distribution of color

Very cool design, and amazingly coloured too. I also love the facial expression, she has this very "princess-y" half smile, it really works.
The background is also fantastic. You did that by hand!?

Well, see that circular design containing all those curliques? I did THAT by hand, then scanned it in and used the computer to repeat, shrink, color, and place it all about to make the background.

AAAAHHH SHE'S SO PRETTYYYYYYYYYYY. The design work, the dress, the colors, mwahahahaha I really like it. Instant fave XDDDD
One thing I must say though, is that I think your poses are kind of static and not fluid enough. She's just standing there, and it also looks kind of awkward because her neck is long and her hands are just...by her sides. Well, the purpose of this WAS for design, so maybe you weren't concentrating on pose as much?
But I gotta say, your coloring is fantastic and your designs very intricate and creative. Very, very pretty :3

Oh yes, your last sentence of that paragraph is right. Since this was just about designing her dress, I just did a basic standing-there pose. I wasn't trying to do anything interesting. The long neck, however, is a proportion problem.

Yes, I remember that conversation. ^^ I am a prime example of needing to make my character outfits less simple...but then again, the details you put into yours I have no idea how to do in mind, like embroiderings, details on armor, etc.
