Isn't there places like this in Qld?

mumma-duck In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-12 08:55:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I guess so.
I'm only about 40 minutes from Noosa one direction & Rainbow Beach the other... but I feel I've been there so much.
I suppose you get used to the surrounds & don't 'see' things as much. I love it when my sister (=nutmeg-42 ) comes to visit. I get to see things through a 'visitors eyes' ...if you know what I mean

Very nice Malcolm . I bet you could have gotten away with only 1-2 seconds instead of 5 , however it's a great shot! I actually do not find the log distracting, I think it adds to the sense of depth here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to Ryser915 [2009-04-11 21:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Ryan You are probably right. I was experimenting on the day using full manual settings (In the past I had used aperture priority)

It seems to be a bit divided about the log however I think that it adds something to the scene.

I for one like the log in the pond... and the fern cropped into the corner is great! Really ads a lot to the framing side of things...

But yes, this is good, not great, but good. As long as you learn something from each and every thing you do, you'll come out ahead of the rest. There's a lesson in everything, you just have to be willing to find it.

Whatever are we going to do with Olympus? These things are difficult to repair, but it is wearing very thin. I hope they compensate you in some way for this horrendous injustice...

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to Feonix-Lancaster [2009-04-11 06:11:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Fe.

I can't do much about Olympus until Tuesday when I will ring again. They will probably say that they are waiting for parts though.

Feonix-Lancaster In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-11 06:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Well, all I can say is this is very unfortunate... their incompetence is proving costly.

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to Feonix-Lancaster [2009-04-11 07:46:25 +0000 UTC]

They know that they hold the balance of power - I can't take it anywhere else to be repaired and I have spent a small fortune on lenses that only fit Olympus cameras.

What is it my boss used to say? Just tape it together, that stuff'll fix everything

Get yourself a twenty dollar role of Gorilla/UCT/Racing Tape, and you'll be right as rain.

JoyfulColor [2009-04-10 20:48:55 +0000 UTC]

Another beauty, Malcolm! Although I wonder what this would look like as a square crop?? I find the end of the log just a tad distracting.
I would like to know what you see as the focal point of this piece?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to JoyfulColor [2009-04-10 21:43:42 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if there actually is a focal point Michelle. I don't think that this is one of my better photos.

If you cropped it what would you crop out?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoyfulColor In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-10 22:09:20 +0000 UTC]

Maybe not the best, but very pleasant anyway. But this seems to be such a beautiful valley.
If I was going to crop I would crop the bottom. That waterfall is just too beautiful, and although I like the fern in the bottom left, like I said I find the log a bit distracting.
I know others may not agree, but I gotta call em as I see em.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FireflyPhotosAust In reply to JoyfulColor [2009-04-11 06:13:49 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind you calling them how you see them Michelle

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoyfulColor In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-11 18:42:10 +0000 UTC]

I am glad, Malcolm . Actually if I thought you would mind I probably wouldn't be quite so forthright. And you know how I love your photography! I just try to remember that this is not a private conversation, but one with the potential to be overheard by a rather large number of people.

We do tend to forget that others can read our comments sometimes

JoyfulColor In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-11 21:44:58 +0000 UTC]

On the other hand it can be instructive to read others comments . I do seem to be the odd man out on this one, as most people seem to like the log.

Everyone has a different view on what is good or bad. I see some that get DD's and I have no idea why.

JoyfulColor In reply to FireflyPhotosAust [2009-04-13 04:04:26 +0000 UTC]

Gotta agree with you there. Many DDs I like, some I fave, and some are like, "huh! what were they thinking?". But that just means we all have different tastes, even in art .
