I don't normally say "I love you man!" but when I do, I say it to people who can draw this Dante in the sexiest pose ever. SO..I LOVE YOU MAN. XD I love this Dante, that's just my opinion, -w-

I love this pic, you did a great job, I just don't like the so called "reboot" at all.
Now before I'm called a hater and shit, let me just plead my case.
I think the gameplay looks alright, nice combos, variety of moves, I guess as long as they kept the major mechanics like orbs, stylish ranking, overall mission rank, upgrades, ect. in tact, I would have a good time playing.
My personal issue comes into play when we look outside of that context.
First off, in defining Dante, Ninja Theory has stated Dante will be a half-Angel, half-Demon hybrid.
This, of course, breaks the canon held by the series since the first game's release. Dante has always been a hybrid of the human Eva, and the demon Sparda.
I simply can't give a game as much respect when it breaks it's own well-established canon.
Second of all, comes Dante's personality, or apparent lack thereof.
Now I'm going to delve beyond his grungy look and newly-acquired love of cigarettes for this one. Dante in this game seemingly disdains those around him, he speaks sparingly, and when he does, it's without that certain air of confidence, even in the first game Dante had that slight cockiness that said "come and get me!". Dante's lack of this trait faintly echoes that of Devil May Cry 2. Which I personally hold low on the scale due to lack of character
Also, they have chosen to remake Vergil's character, seemingly without that drive for power, that...motivation. that he had in Devil May Cry 3. The main problem I see here is that it is a common belief (if not directly stated than inferred) that Vergil's lust for power resulted from his inability to protect his mother from the demon attack that took her life when he and Dante were children. If this story clearly takes place after that, why would Vergil not show that same desire even before the events of Devil May Cry 3?
Third, this game is set in some form of alternate dimension of Limbo, with demons apparently pulling the strings. In this instance, I have trouble understanding how this is considered a "reboot" or "remake" when it is set in an entirely independent plane of existence. Also, if the human and demon worlds were sealed, how could demons be operating behind the scenes. In all previous games, some human force (aside from Mundus in the first game) allowed demons to enter the human world via some form of connection. If this Limbo is being controlled by demons, how does the plain of Limbo interconnect with the human and demon realms?
Finally, going back to the earlier point about character personality, I simply have trouble seeing how following a person so seemingly devoid of a sense of cockiness, or rather, devoid of traits that show him as a reliable protagonist... (please excuse me if this sounds rather skewed) I simply don't see the game as offering a good story, like those presented by Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 (my two personal favorites)

I'll be happy to help you out there.
first: True, Dante now being half Angel/Demon is a break of tradition in DMC, but DMC has broken its own traditions once before. DMC2 broke Dante's character tradition of being cocky, but still have a heart. DMC4 broke the "no love" factor with Nero and Kyrie. DmC just takes a tiny bit of things to a bigger change, while DMC has been doing that for the past four games, but mask all that under a red coat white hair and fun gameplay.
second: Dante's personality is suppose to reflect that of a human being. Because he was raised in a human world, and was raised on the bitter streets, he's grown as such and has picked up that mentality of a kid raised in ghettos, and the law against them. Plus with demons too, he knows he's the only person going through this and that asking for help wouldn't do him any good at all. He lost his memory of his family and who he was so he walked the earth confused and not sure how to truly live life. He parties, drinks, and gets laid only because he knows that he won't last much longer on earth.
Vergil's character in DMC3 was a simple concept; "I want power." But the bad part about Capcom's terrible writing was that they didn't give a good explanation as to why he wanted power. It was all fan speculation of why, but no confirming answer. To me, Vergil wanted power just to have it. After losing the only person he ever loved, he felt weak, and therefore wanted power because of it. Capcom didn't elaborate on this very well. New Vergil also is power hungry. That much is easy to see. He builds up this order and uses it to gain great power over the demons and keeps wanting to get powerful so that he could wipe them all out as vengeance for his mother. Or at least that's what it looks like to me.
I'm sure by now, you know it's not a continuation or a prequel to DMC3.
Third:Every DMC was an alternate realm in its own sense. DMC3 Dante is not like DMC1 Dante. DMC3 Dante is brash, hot headed, and very crude. DMC1 Dante is calm, cocky, and cool-headed. They are very different. DMC2 Dante seems more to DMC1 Dante as a future self, while DMC4 and DMC3 Dante seem more alike. But even so, each DMC had a different director so there was no real continuity in his character.
The door was never said to be sealed in DmC. All that was said was that Mundus rose to power, and *SPOILER"
Sparda was still alive but imprisoned in a terrible pain and suffering by Mundus after he rebelled against Mundus.Plus they're blood brothers now.
*SPOILER END*
So there was not talk in the door even being closed at all or locked.
Limbo doesn't connect with the human world and effect humans...yet. It's an alternate world that's always existed in the world, but is being used by Mundus to try and kill Dante.
Finally:That's the thing. new Dante isn't a reliable protagonist. He's imperfect and has his flaws that he must grow out of. He wasn't a perfect hero like DMC1 Dante, he had flaws that needed development. CHARACTER development. DMC3 Dante lacked this because he was kicking everyone's ass and looked like the anime lead who could beat anyone in his way no matter what. He had no real flaws in character and made no real changes in the development of character even. He was just...the same. DmC Dante starts out as this slouch of a man who only parties all day and drinks beer. But as he realizes that the world really is in danger, and that those he truly Cares about are at risk, he grows to become a better hero and defend the humans from certain doom.
That's my two cents though.
