Description My gallery is almost entirely earth tones. It needed some red.
Studies of Kung Fu forms done specifically with Kung Fu Panda in mind, so I could practice proper poses and try to capture the grace and fluidity. These are referenced from photos in a Kung Fu handbook (the one published by DK, I think, but I don't remember for certain).

You may reference these sketches, but you may NOT copy them directly! To draw martial arts forms properly, you really need to study them for yourself, so do your research and be creative! It's way more fun anyway!

Great job, I like this a lot. You have the balance of the characters perfectly done

Ah, thank you! I'm definitely going to draw more of these someday, somehow it's very relaxing!

Where do you get these poses from? Unfortunately I'm just a 15 year old kid stuck at home fantasizing about the martial arts and trying to make his own, and the internet is no real help. So when I try drawing epic poses like these..... y'know.Β

Like I said in the artist's comments, these are referenced from photos in a Kung Fu handbook (the one published by DK, I think, but I don't remember for certain).Β I'd just check out your library for any kind of visual Kung Fu guide, that's what I did.Β Sorry I can't be of more help. :T

After poking around, it would seem that I technically gave that character a longsword.

We've got a snow leopard character (completely unrelated to Kung Fu Panda) who supposed to know kung fu (among other things, sort of like Jackie Chan), but there's not a whole lot of information online about the various styles. Would you have any suggestions?
I also have a character who uses the broadsword, but heck if there are any sources for Elizabethan sword-fighting...

Hmmmph, I've had a really hard time researching specific styles, too. What I ended up having to do is go through every Kung Fu book I could get hold of and gathering scattered images into my own posefile. You might try looking up dojos online to see if they have galleries that you could reference? I had a bit of luck with that. All I ever collected was Crane style, though.... If I stumble across any Leopard style poses, I'll send them your way!
Yeah, that all gets melded into generic "swordfights". You could find videos of broadsword masters on YouTube, maybe?

I was sort of hoping to find a list of styles to begin with. Wikipedia isn't very thorough. Also, it'd be much more useful to me to see videos rather than just poses, since there's going to be fight scenes- especially since I want it to be animated.
See, I wasn't even sure if there WAS a Leopard style.

Like I said on my other comment, it seems that it's actually a longsword... I did find a couple of websites. Looking it up just now, there are videos. Old books on the subject would be very useful too.
