This ends up looking really nice, and has a strong sense of mood to it.

The figure is drawn really well. The shapes of the legs, the arms, and how they bend are very lifelike, very believable. I like how her head is turned to the side as she stands, and how posing her head like that, combined with the kind of stillness to how she's standing, gives her a quiet, personality. I love how complex the coloring is on her figure, and how well it defines the volume of the forms and shapes that makes up her figure, as well as showing the weight of the materials on her clothes and how they drape on her body.

What really strikes me is the contrasts of some of the elements. Her figure is very well defined by the coloring and shading, like I mentioned, and that coloring is fairly dark. Appropriately so, since it's nighttime, and there's just a little light from the moon that's reflecting (very nicely, I might add -- I love how lifelike the glow of the moon is bouncing off her figure) off of her. But her figure for the most part is pretty dark, and the pose is pretty calm.

But then there are a few elements that are in comparison very bright, and they all have a greater sense of energy and impact, if less complex rendering and shading. The hair is a bright orange, and is rendered in a more graphic way, with less emphasis on giving it dimension like on her figure. But I really like how it looks that way, and I love the energy it has as her hair flutters about in the wind. I love the shapes of her hair, especially how the strands dance about at the end of her hair. The bright color, and that energy, really add a lot of visual interest, and it really pops because it contrasts the darker, more rendered figure, but not in a jarring way.

Another area that contrasts is the water. The colors are, again, much brighter, and the ripples and movement of the water has a sense of energy and motion that also contrasts with her figure, with her feet standing still in the water. I can see why you say the water could be refined some, but I think the bright, glowing blues and the rippling lines communicate a good sense of movement of the water reacting to wind and to her standing in it.

And then even the moon, which glows brightly in the pic, has a sense of energy with the way the light glows from it in the sky, subtly softening as the reflected rays of light fade into the darkness of the night.

Now, I keep saying I love the contrast of those bright elements with their nice energy and sense of movement to the more calm, quiet and still figure. But even in that contrast, everything feels very cohesive. I really think this painting is stronger for having a quiet mood in a calm night setting, with elements that pop with bright energy. The calmness of night really sets the mood, and the detail on her figure, in terms of the drawing of her figure itself gives a very lifelike feel to her, and then the bright hair, water, and moonlight pulls it altogether and gives it a lively energy while not taking away from the mood of the picture, or compromising the lifelike character of the figure.

A very lovely painting.

Wow, when I saw you had written so much about this one I sort of freaked out cause it's sooooo old and I really don't like anything about it, and I was a bit afraid you'd give alot of critisism about things I have already worked out myself in the year since I drew this, but heck, you only said positive things! About this! Haha, don't get me wrong, It's great that you like it, I'm just quite shocked. But appreciated, of course. Thanks a bunch! : D

Haha! Isn't the subjectivity of art funny, how you've grown to kinda dislike this piece of yours and I found a lot of things to like about it? Well, I can certainly understand why you might feel flabbergasted that I went on about how I liked this since I'm sure you've felt you've grown and gone in other directions with your art from here that you are more pleased with, but I still really like how moody and emotive this pic is in a quiet way.

You're very welcome. : )

I haven't seen such a good digital painting in a long long time..
maybe you could improve three-dimensionality of her hair a bit, it's kinda flat..
and the moon is a bit too green, but apart from that, it's really beutiful

Well thank you. And I know alot of things are too flat, I actually submitted this before it was finished because I got so frustrated drawing it.

Wow, this already looks really cool - the shaded skin contrasts well with the flat moon and hair. It'll probably look amazing when it's done!

However, be very careful with your colors. You seem to be shading the skin with grey, and the clothing with different tints of the local color. That makes the skin look dull and unrealistic, and makes the entire piece seem very fragmented. Instead, use the light sources to determine shades. There might be blue reflecting up from the water, or a little more red on her legs from the warmth of her skin (not much, though)
Also, this tutorial might be of some help: :thumb144294636:

Anyhow, good luck, and keep painting

First, excellent job on the lighting! Especially on her legs! This also very surreal, with the gentle flower of her hair and the mild moon. One thing: her arm after the elbow seems a bit to narrow, but otherwise, very charming picture.

Haha, feels good that you commented on the legs, cause I actually spent hours on those and then I got to tired of it to do the rest as good.

The textures on her are very lovely and certainly make her stand out against the simple background. Her pose is also wonderful, You did a very good job of finding a realistic pose, which can be difficult when painting/drawing people.

Hm. I like how you've put a lot of shading in her legs and clothes, but very little in her hair It makes it stand out in an impressionist way.

And I find that the moon not being perfectly round makes it more charming

This is probably my favorite of the thumbs you've posted!

I like the color choices and the solidity of the color in the hair. The light from the moon fading into the sky looks good. The shading of the legs and clothing looks nice, too.

I suppose you could do so more work in the water - like you said. As a whole I really like this piece.

I like this, the way you've given the moon that glowing effect looks really nice. The shading's good, lovely and soft with that dullness that you would get in the moonlight.
