EDIT: Lol guys, stop looking at this old thing. I already did a remake of it. xDOk so I ran into a little problem. I DID start out with Ethan as my fave, but as I played more diamond, Lucas slowly creeped up to being my favorite. So to compensate, those of you who guessed either Ethan or Lucas will be in their own separate drawings. So I'm going 2 requests! One for Ethan guessers and one for Lucas guessers.

HOLY BEJESUS THIS TOOK SO LONG~~~~~~~
Started with a, what, 7 hour sketch? I neglected to put ALL of them, as I'm aware there were at least two more I didn't put on here, but those games are so old I didn't feel like it.
But I tried to include the 10 trainers from Pokemon FRLG, RSE, DPP, HGSS, and the newest game, Black and White. As you can see here, I chose the outfits for Emerald, but went for the normal DP one. I just didn't feel like thick clothing suited a group of pretty mildly dressed people. I tried out differently coloring tactics for each person, mainly for the skin. So if some of the skin look different (but with this scanner quality, it's hard to tell, if not impossible) then that was my experimenting. The coloring itself took a bazillion hours. I started about a 6 days ago, and I would have finished it I didn't get my DS two days ago. I've been simply STUCK to it. I left like 5 pokemon uncolored, and I sucked it up and colored them today.
As for the colors, you're probably wondering why the blacks, grays, dark blues and reds look so retarded. Well the answer has something to do with light bouncing off visible colors, causing the colors to go whacko. Or something. Basically, scanners HATE dark colors, especially blacks, blues, and reds. So it was pretty unfortunate that every single character HAD THOSE EVIL COLORS ON THEM. It really sucks you know?!
I didn't do a background this time around. I had lost all patience with this picture, and I had no idea what to do for a background. Also, perspective problems and mistakes I made would show up if I DID do a background. So I leave it as it is so it looks better.
Gah my arm is shaking cuz I did a lotta exercising with my arms today.
Moving on.
I made some PRETTY BAD perspective and anatomy mistakes. I won't point them out, to save myself the embarrassment, but you don't notice these mistakes until you actually lineart the sketch. Seriously. It really sucks once its all in ink, and you see about 6 pretty nasty mistakes. You can look for them. I don't care. Just do me a favor and don't post them.

TIME FOR MY RANT ABOUT EACH TRAINER (and a little pokemon)!
Blue: Ahhhh her name....Sora sounds so much nicer than BLUE. Like seriously? I really enjoyed Blue's hair. When I first saw it, I knew I was gunna have a fun time drawing it. And I did. Coloring it was great too, since I use a light lavender to do dark shadows. Can you tell that I used a purple color to do some of the shadows? What was unfortunate was it looks more like a gradient than strands. But I guess it's still nice yes? She was the first one I colored.
Red: When I saw this guy, I was thinking : Wow. He's not smiling. What a spoilsport. Shoulda known it was Red. Shoulda known. I didn't want him frowning, looking all cool like. (I love you Red, I really do, but you need to act more like your age.) So I drew him smiling. While petting a Bulbasaur. Because I didn't count Pikachu as a starter. Even though it was a starter on Pokemon Yellow. His hair, like Blue's, was fun to do, but I didn't like the results as much. All the red on him was driving me nuts. The coloring shows up the worse in this scanned picture.
Ethan: OH MY GOODNESS IT'S ETHAN!!! Seriously, this kid looks the HAPPIEST out of all these kids. He gives me the happy vibe! I swear once I get a HGSS game, I'M MAKING AN ETHAN. This guy is the best, love him! I really REALLY loved his pants, and I wanted to show them off (I love pants that go to just below the knee), but I was out of space by the time I drew him, so I had no choice but to spread his legs out and try and show them. I wanted him to hold the happiest pokemon in Johto, Totodile, because he's so happy himself.
Lyra: I love Lyra as well. Seriously. Johto is my most favorite region EVER. I saw her in the anime and I loved her. I saw her in the game and I loved her. Her design seems adventurous, yet girly at the same time. I like her! I wanted her to hold onto her anime pokemon, Chikorita, and since she gave Dawn a Cyndaquil egg, I gave her a Cyndaquil. In my opinion, I think she turned out to be one of the best girls I drew.
Brendan: I drew him first, since he's in the center and in the front. The first pokemon game I played was 2 weeks ago, Sapphire. I HATE May (huge hint, that just knocked out of your choices people!) so I refused to start with her. I used Brendan instead. He's pretty cool. I wanted May to hold her Tochic, so I stuck the other two on him. Honestly. I don't like Mudkips. They're cute to look at, listen to, etc, but I can't stand them in the game. I just can't. I have one on Emerald using May, and I don't like using it. I use my Gardevoir more. Ok. Moving on.
May: HATE HER HATE HER HATE HER. (Sorry May fans. :/ ) I can't stand her in the anime, which carries on my hate to the games. Actually it's been toned down to just mild dislike. I had to admit though, I really really liked her design for the Emerald game, which influenced my choice in drawing the Emerald outfits. But coloring the orange drove my nuts too, since I didn't actually have a good orange color. So I blended some colors and came up with this crap. Same goes for Brendan's.
Lucas: Oh Lucas, you sweetheart. <3 I love him! I got a Diamond game for my DS, and I chose Dawn, and the computer Lucas has been nothing short of sweet and awesome to me. I know if I played Lucas, Dawn woulda been sweet to me too, but I like to dream right? Seriously, I think Dawn and Lucas have chemistry.
For him, I was running outta sitting positions, so I just did a kneeling one. It worked out pretty nice. I wanted Dawn to hold her Piplup and Ash's Chimchar, so I gave him a Turtwig. Turtwigs are so sweet. ^_^ Sweet Pokemon with a sweet trainer.Dawn: I don't like her anime persona very much, but of all these girls I love her design the absolute best!!!!! It's adorable. Unfortunately, I had really contrasting pinks, so it 'the coloring didn't turn out great. Also, I was losing patience by the time I drew her, so she didn't turn out as pretty as I'd have liked. I'm disappointed him her.
But I still love her design nonetheless. Some 2 years ago, I was watching my friend play her DPP whichever game, and I saw her character, and I thought "OH MY GOODNESS! YOUR CHARACTER IS SO CUTE!" She looked at me kinda weird, but that's not the point. I love her design. None of my friends like her, in fact they question why I hate May more than her. I just REALLY REALLY like her design. Chimchars are my ALL TIME FAVORITE starters. I fell in love with them watching the anime, and I was estatic to start one in the game. And I love mine! But I've grown to love other pokemon too, so I don't use my Infernape as much. But I still love it so <3Oh yeah. I bred a male Chimchar. If anyone wants it, I'm willing to trade it for another DP starter. ^_^
New boy: I don't know much about him, so I can't say much. Like Lucas, I was running out of sitting ideas (that were manly. I had plenty of girly ideas, but as you can see, the girls are wearing pretty short pants/skirts, so it would have been...revealing to draw them sitting. Lyra was special.) I REALLY liked the way I colored his jacket. It turned out really nice. He seems like a sweet guy too. So I drew him with a more mild expression.
New girl: Don't know much about her either, but she's cool! Coolest design of all the girls. Her hair is a tad strange, but hey, this is pokemon right? I really REALLY REALLY like her pants. I wish I had pants like those! Except I'd never wear them cuz I never wear shorts.
I love her eye color too. A twinkling bright blue. ^^ I had her holding the one pokemon I really would like to start with, Mujimaru, the sea otter, and my second choice, Pokabu, the fire pig. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bulbasaur: I think I did a really great job of my Bulbasaur! It's so cute isnt it?
Chamander: Charmander turned out well too! I like it's tail.
Squirtle: He's so happppyyyyy~
Cyndaquil: My friend's favorite. She loves them so much. The first time I drew a Cyndaquil, it was a 40 minute hell trying to get it's nose/muzzle thing right! But I got it in 3 minutes this time! Yay!!
Chikorita: I kept thinking about my friend while drawing this, since he made his facebook profile pic a Chikorita. I had to use a TON of references, cuz chikoritas have the WEIRDEST side profiles. o_O
Totodile: I can do a PERFECT totodile impression. A happy pokemon for a happy trainer! (Ethan)
Torchic: I LOVE BLAZIKENS! I thought Torchics are adorable, so I wanted it to be hugged in a happy, cute way.
Treecko: What animal do you think of when you see them? Gecko for sure right? I wanted it to be more adventurous, and have it climbing all over the place. So on Brendan's shoulder it is!
Mudkips: It HAD to be the front. Otherwise people would slap me. Couz Mudkipz r all that rite? (I still don't like them much)
Turtwig: My favorite grass type. They're adorable! Their little beak jaws....dawwww.....so sweet.
I wanted him to be with a sweet trainer! (Lucas)Piplup: Dawn's trademark. So it had to be in her arms. Had to. And had to be happy. I personally DON'T LIKE DAWN'S piplup, but piplups are pretty awesome.
Chimchar: MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said, love at first sight in the anime. Ash's Chimchar is so sweet, and drew a lot of pity and love from me. Despite my hatred of monkeys from a young age, (people always called me that, cuz I was a VERY VERY skinny child.) I just LOVE chimchars. Like I said, tell me if you're up for a trade for a chimchar for another starter (piplup, turtwig).
Mujimaru: When Black and White come out, since I have a DS now, I'm DEFINITELY getting the game! And I'm making a Mujimaru! Despite all the hate it's getting, I think it's adorable. That's probably because I love otters. I think its "dopey" expression is what makes it cute!
Pokabu: My first favorite, but slowly lost to Mujimaru. My friend is for sure getting this. Why? She loves fire types, and adores pigs to death. Her room is full of pigs. Pigs everywhere. What to get for her birthday? Pigs. Christmas? Pigs. Just cuz she's an awesome friend? A pig. Something with a pig on it, and she will love it. Unless it's an ugly pig. I wanted it to be adventurous! So on the head of the girl it was!!
Tsutaja: I personally won't make one of these until I see it's final evolution. I'm not to atracted to it, as it seems to be a kinda snobby looking pokemon. REALLY snobby. But this gives me the impression that it will evolve into a DROP DEAD GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL GRASS DRAGON. I really hope so! It will be beautiful for sure!!!!!

Hah, I love the expressions on their faces: especially that goofy grin on Ethan's face or the look of sheer joy on Lyra's. My favorite here has to be the one you call Blue--I call her by her semi-official name, Leaf, because I like distinguishing her from the manga's blue, whose hair, face, and eyes are different despite wearing the FRLG outfit.
She happens to be my favorite Pokemon protagonist, so I'm glad you did her justice. I, too, absolute love her hair--you drew her awesome hat really well too. Her expression is so peaceful and happy--and I'm glad she's holder Charmander, also my favorite! But I think her skirt and legs are by far the best drawn here--you seem to be good at those in general, Red's jeans as well as Lyra's overalls and socks look particularly good, but Leaf here takes the cake. The proportions and shading are just perfect. I could rave some more about how well you drew her, but I'll stop now. Well done!

Yeah, I never leave sparse comments. I figure that artists want feedback, and since I lack the ability to create art myself, I make up for it with a critical eye instead.
Really, nobody? I suppose it depends on which trainer people like best: doubtless one's more likely to think their favorite trainer is the one that's best drawn. I like almost everything about your Leaf! I'm very excited to hear that you're planning to make another version of this picture. About the only disappointments I have about Leaf are her top (for some reason it lacks depth--it doesn't pop out like the rest of her. It's not bad by any means! It's just that her head and lower body is so well done that the torso sticks out) and the fact that she has Ethan/Squirtle/Charmander/fellow from Black&White blocking her--she's too awesome to have anything standing in front of her and blocking the view! She and Red are the original champions after all.
Yeah, I mentioned that: Blue wears Leaf's outfit. But she still looks like Blue: she has blue eyes, and a different hairstyle (I am very happy that you're using Leaf's hairstyle and not Blue's here), and a vastly different personality (not that we know too much about Leaf's, but I expect it's a little like Red's).
And there's another long comment. What can I say, she's my favorite! Well, and Lance too--I could go on about him as well, but he's not a player character.

The character illustration you drew for that one was fantastic as well. You just seem to have a knack for it--and I mean, it's not just the drawing itself--I especially like the way you color these things. Keep it up, it's great.

LOL, now that you mention it... yeah, I am not sure sitting down would be the best idea in that skirt. I mean, not that I'd complain or anything, but I think she's too dignified/demure to do something like that. Although I mean who knows, she's willingly adventuring around the world, riding bikes and Pokemon in a miniskirt, so maybe she's really confident about herself?

I mean, like I said, she still wears that sort of revealing outfit--but I just think she does it because it's comfortable to adventure in and she doesn't care, not because she wants to flaunt anything. I feel she's probably the strongest of the heroines in Pokemon--that's probably why I like her. Damsels in distress and pretty pretty princesses get old.

Hmm the contest rp is something I made with a friend...we started it about 3 months ago, and have been trying to get members ever since, but not many people are joining at all, which is really sad. I say its fun, but no one is joining, so...I might discuss somethings with my friend so maybe we will change the purpose to get more people to join? C:

Ahh. Well, I'd join but I'm afraid I'd be next to useless, since I know nothing at all about Contests. I thought it looked intriguing, since I hadn't seen many Pokemon RPs around, but I suppose it might just be that I'm not looking hard enough.
Even better, you say? Well, then there's something to look forward to...
Welll... I have less positive views about the other heroines. Kris has bizarre hair. May seems rather girly, in general. Dawn... I don't know what she's thinking. Her skirt's shorter than even Leaf's, to the point of sheer impracticality, especially for her climinate. That outfit she wears in Platinum? If she goes out in snow without pants, she's going to get frozen. She's insane! She was a real low for Pokemon heroines, I think--too much emphasis on cuteness and chic. Lyra was a little better, but those overalls make her look like a hayseed. The Black&White heroine just... well, I won't even go there.
Needless to say, Leaf's the only one who's outfit seems justified. She has a sporty top and shoes, a fantastic hat, wonderful hair, and yes she has a skirt, but given her generally serious countenance, the skirt seems to make her seem "badass" rather than cutesy. I call her confident and adventurous--I call the others... well, far less flattering things.
I mean. I could really see May, Dawn, and Lyra as damsels in distress. Perhaps not Kris, she looked serious enough, but her hair seems to defy gravity so she annoys me too.

Huh. Yeah, there are quite a few, I suppose. I probably wouldn't have much time to devote to them, sadly. It's a shame, though, because it sounds like it'd be fun.
May: Well... she wears biking shorts, yes. But her expressions are always cutesy and she's associated with contests in a lot of the official art, which underlines girlishness. Sure, she might wear athletic-looking clothes, but it comes across more as accessorizing then anything else. Compare her look with Leaf's--both athletic and serious. Why did you used to hate her, incidentally?
Dawn: Yeah, she really needs to change it.. or at least wear tights underneath that outrageously short skirt. Seriously, Leaf's was pretty short to begin with--I don't know how they decided to go even shorter for the next heroine. The snow jacket is shorter still... and it's for COLD weather? They do realize the winter coat is useless if she's going to be getting cold drafts up her skirt and/or getting her legs turned into icicles? I don't know what they were thinking. She's the definition of fanservice, which is disturbing considering how young the heroines are supposed to be: either it's really creepy, or they're just encouraging little kids to get into that kind of thing.
Lyra: Yeah... Lyra is way too cutesey too. I can't imagine someone like her standing up to Silver. There's a reason there's a lot of fanart that has him picking on her, I think.

Well... yeah. I strongly dislike her anime appearance. But I can't shake the feeling that her anime appearance is based how the game designers intended her. She doesn't look very tough in the promotional art, after all.
Really? I agree it's completely unsuitable for traveling, but Dawn's outfit seems closer to "skanky" than "adorable" to me. She's way too young to be wearing that stuff.
Lyra and Silver... well, I suppose it's mostly the whole Team Rocket costume thing.

Tajiri Satoshi mentioned that the manga portrayed his perception of the Pokemon world the best. So I trust the manga interpretations of the characters more. Therefore, I ignore the anime personalities. The anime makers had a child target audience in mind, so they had to make the girls...well...how they appeared.
I wouldn't say Skanky. She never actually shows anything.
To be honest, I don't think the characters look their age at all. Honestly, 10 year olds are short midgets. And they don't have boobs. All the girls have breasts, like seriously?

Well, yeah.. the anime world is definitely different from the original game world, considering how different the League structure is and all that. But the fact that the manga *world* is more accurate doesn't necessarily mean that its personalities are. Like you said: the anime made the girls act just the way they appeared. Well, surely they appear that way for a reason?
Um, she doesn't need to show *anything* to be skanky. Considering her notional age, I'm really glad she doesn't. But seriously, her skirt is so short that the slightest breeze would create a wardrobe malfunction, much less climbing, biking, and all the other stuff she's supposedly doing too. The top isn't much better. It's too "tween superstar," which is another awful inappropriate trend that's been happening lately.
Yeah. The breasts. That's a huge issue I have with them being ten. I get it, they want to appeal to kids. But if they're going to sexualize the characters, they have to make them older so that I. little kids don't get the wrong ideas and II. they look their age. I mean, Kris was fine. May was really, really, pushing it. I could buy her as an early bloomer, but come on, she ought to have been 12 at least. Her biker outfit would let her get away with that. Leaf though... as much as I like her, she was way too curvy to be ten. Or even twelve. Thirteen or fourteen seems about right--it's not that she has big boobs or anything, she's probably smallish for a teenager, but she HAS to be a teenager for it to even make sense. Dawn and Lyra both look about thirteen (although they dress like foolish pre-teens), and White actually looks older. I actually think White's pretty skanky too, with her tight shirt and ridiculous shorts but at least they aged her up. Leaf is probably the most normal/modest looking of them all, but her age is all wrong: if they aged her up like White, but kept a similar look, then that would be an excellent model for future protagonists to follow.
I mean, good grief, none of the male characters have this issue. I mean, yes, aside from the original Red, they also look like young teenagers... but at least they're not sexualized. But I guess that's only really Dawn and White that's an issue, and White's at least the right age. The other girls just look more developed than tehy should.

Yeah I found that out after I drew a picture. But some people interpret it as his hair, since the game doesn't show it. The manga does. xD I seriously love Ruby. He's just all kinds of awesome.
