Description Will and Tug on the trail. (after I was done I remembered that I forgot the bow...so it's on the other side of the saddle)

I used a picture from the Western State Trail (Tevis Cup), probably the most famous section, cougar rock. For those of you who dont know what I'm talking about, the Western State Trail is a 100 mile endurance ride that goes from lake Tahoe to Auburn, California. It is a rugged tough terain with steep up's and down's and it all has to be completed in 24hours. Wow. These are the modern day ranger horses! Riding from 4:40am to cut off time, mostly at a trot, 180 or more horses and riders on the trail and only around 50% even finish. But those who do finish get a buckle saying their and their horse's accompleshment. And its done in summer around end of july to beginning august on the day of the full moon. Temperatures range from 80 to 110 F. I hope to ride it one day to say that I've done it.

Yay! Same here!
you and me both Have you done endurance before?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rawliett In reply to FiveElemenets [2013-03-20 03:45:53 +0000 UTC]

No. I want to so badly though! I just got my first horse about seven month ago. She's an Oldenburg broodmare, trained for dressage. It's a long story of how/why I have her. I wanted to do endurance with her but she HATES trails, so it's unfair for her. Plus...on Friday I have the decision of if I will keep her or not. If I don't keep her I'll be giving her up to a "friend". The only problem is if I do give her up then I won't have a horse. And I hate it because I can afford a horse but just not board. If there was no board fees I could do it (currently she stays for free at my "friends" property). It sucks...I really want to find a place where I can lease an endurance/competitive trail horse but nowhere in Florida really has that. So, I'm not sure what I will do.

Have you ever done endurance?

its a countdown till my offical 1st ride! 31 days left! Im excited!!!
I have been on several training rides around 10ish miles and my Throughbred loves it (though over enthusiastic and playing games most of the beginning) the only drawback to this guy is that he has arthitis in his hock...so got to be careful there and probably wont be able to ever go over 25 or 30 mles. But I'll see i guess.

If you are interusted in getting into the sport you can check out the AERC website find a ride in your area and volenter at a ride and get a taste of it link to ride calendar--> [link]

you never know you might meet someone there who needs someone to ride a horse for them. I have a contact who has two horses and If my guy isnt ready I can ride her horse.

Hope you find a horse who loves trails!

That's so awesome!!

But at least he loves what he does and you can still do short rides It's better than nothing.

I really want to get into it! Though I may have to wait a few years until I get my own horse that is suited for that. But I really do want to get into one of the races to see if I can't find someone I could ride their horse(s) even if it's only to help keep up with exercise.

And thanks!

Sounds like one awesome trail ride indeed! *If not enormously hard!*
I'd not mind to indeed ride it to say 'I've done it!' ;3
Good luck with Bo going that way ! ;3

I will BTW be looking at a couple mares soon for adoption!
Let's see if one of them turns out to be adoptable!

FiveElemenets In reply to BadgerBread [2012-03-28 06:40:38 +0000 UTC]

I hope one is!!!

what are the mares like?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BadgerBread In reply to FiveElemenets [2012-03-28 14:58:16 +0000 UTC]

They're both Brandenburgers, imported from Germany apperantly!
A little on the 'old' side, one from '88, the other fom '93!
One is a 15h, the other a 16h!
I hope to go and have a look at them, and see if one matches!

According to the description, they should be!
Does your stables still have a spot left for boarding or? : P

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FiveElemenets In reply to BadgerBread [2012-03-28 17:37:58 +0000 UTC]

wow big i hope one fits! the younger one might be beter because then you could try endurance and jumping...but even at 19...well it depends on the horse.

well my stable right now has no spots but i think a horse is leaving in april or may. if you contact the owner she'd know. (im kinda out of the loop )

BadgerBread In reply to FiveElemenets [2012-03-29 00:14:24 +0000 UTC]

It's ok! It'd be for after summer, as I'm going on a 2 month trip to Belgium so!
She'd have to be kept there for at least that part! :0

And yeah 19. I think I'll stick with what she knows!
She does low level dressage and some jumping. And recreational trailriding.
So I'll be sure to get some good out of that ;]
Specially as I still gotta learn how to jump haha!

So I'll be busy! Going to proooobably see her next week! : D

FiveElemenets In reply to BadgerBread [2012-03-30 00:34:45 +0000 UTC]

yeah if you contact sherri, she'd be able to tell you

yep! sounds like the horse would be a good jumping teacher. For me i like to go fast paced lol thats just me. i hope to enter a 25 mile endurance ride this summer (keep fingers crossed) but i have a lot to do before that. like get someone to take me, tack, fees, etc...(but i am closing in on a saddle, i tried one yesterday and it fit him mostly and me too so im getting better XD)

hope the first meeting goes well. take pictures i want to see what she looks like!

BadgerBread In reply to FiveElemenets [2012-03-30 03:41:14 +0000 UTC]

I so will! I'm totally excited already haha!
Not sure HOW I'm going to afford it, as I won't have that kind of money!
(They're around 1500 - 2000 @_@)

But I'm definitely going to look, at my teacher wouldn't mind coming to look as well if I need some more help with that! Which I will! : D

I'll see about contacting Sherri, as I'll first need to see how to GET one haha ;]
And maybe I'll be able to talk Karen into giving me a spot there, but I got my big doubts for it.. She's rather full :c

FiveElemenets In reply to BadgerBread [2012-03-31 17:00:46 +0000 UTC]

O.o $2000 for a 19 year old horse?! That's how much my seven year old cost. Personally I wouldn't pay that much for a horse of that age, but if you like them, ok!

Hope you find your 'forever horse'!!!

BadgerBread In reply to FiveElemenets [2012-04-02 06:10:54 +0000 UTC]

Well, we'll have to see!
I don't know what she's worth, but a safe sound horse can be 2k for me haha!
