When I made the first splatter vector (Twilight), I was intrigued by the design in a way I couldn't explain. However, throughout the making of this series, I've come up with what I think is a satisfying analysis of why I find these so fascinating to look at:

When you view a piece of art, there is always a central focus; something your eye immediately snaps to in order to gain perspective. However, when the central image is literally non-existent, your eye becomes confused because there is nothing to focus on. In a way it’s like an optical illusion: your brain wants to grab onto something but your eyes can’t find anything. Since the outside splatters are the only parts with any physical “substance,” your eyes are forced to the outer edges. Unfortunately your brain fights you the whole way and makes you keep searching for a more axial point. This is why whenever I look at any of these I always end up circling the splatters with my eyes; I try to make myself see the picture, but I can't because I am never able to keep the entire image in full focus at any one given time.
