Description
Oh no, guess who got into the horse scene. It's me! I'm literal garbage and here's my garbage horse; Text heavy description below!
Name: Orchid Octave
Gender: Female
Age: Adult, born in spring.
Orientation: she's a fucking horse oh my god [Mares and Stallions are all fine in her book!]
Height: Below average, shorter than... Pinkie? By a fair amount. [A few inches at most]
Weight: A little chubby but not overly so, probably.
Born in: A small village near San Deneigho. [I'm SORRY,]
Lives in: Literally anywhere but that village, basically. Has a preference for Ponyville/Manehatten for personal reasons, but spends too much time traveling to other places to specifically list one location as her true home.
Occupation: Works as a master of ceremonies at various events across Equestria on a fairly regular basis, but she finds it necessary to work a few odd jobs on the side to cover what she's not able to make off of her gigs-- It's not like there's a special event taking place EVERY day in Equestria, right?
Backstory: Born in a small village to the north of San Deneigho, Orchid was a fairly chipper filly who gradually became less and less so due to elevated expectations from her anxious, doting mother and distant, demanding father. Her foalhood was spent in school, but lofty expectations limited her ability to explore talents she had an active interest in, and she spent a fair amount of her time withdrawn and reluctant to interact with others for fear of seeming unprepared. In her free time, she practiced what she could of the skills she found interesting, but never got a chance to put them into practice. She earned her cutiemark, as written below, and shortly began practicing-- Working as hard as she could to become the best she could. However, her withdrawn and altogether quiet nature hindered her greatly; She spent a few years in and around the San Deneigho area, developing her skills and spreading word of her talent, before she was finally able to get out of the suffocating environment in her home village.
She made her way as far away as she could manage, stopping in various locations across Equestria for a few months at a time in order to find part time work to fund her travels further. She spent even longer in Ponyville, as the nature of the towngoers put her at ease, and even made a few friends! She continued to travel, gradually building up a fair amount of bits to her name-- She's been hinting at considering settling down for some time now to those that play important parts in her life, but doesn't show any sign of slowing down to anyone who knows her well.
Over time she's slowly grown into her role and has learned how to balance her personality and persona on stage and off; There are times when she relapses, and times when she feels as if it'd be best to stop pushing herself, but she's pushing through it all with the help of her dear friends.
Personality: [It may be in bullets but you know how wordy i get with this shit i'm sorry]
- [Reserved]: Despite her demeanor on stage/when consciously using her talent, she can be pretty reluctant to interact with large groups of people-- She's friendly to an extent, yes, but it tends to be more polite banter than anything that could leave a lasting impression on anyone. She can get pretty nervous and easily startled if she's forced to engage in direct conversation with multiple ponies, and quickly becomes irritable the longer she's made to interact outside of her comfort zone-- It drains her emotionally, and can leave her tense and suuuper critical of the actions of others.
- [Defensive]: Due to her size and general level of anxiety when she's not on stage, Orchid has a tendency to become defensive of herself and her values before it even becomes a topic of discussion. She's gotten better at restraining this urge to defend herself, but still slips up from time to time when she's particularly emotional-- These slip-ups have the potential to become physical, but normally end in Orchid herself getting injured and apologizing profusely to the other party. With age and practice, this will no longer be an issue, but at her current age it happens more frequently than she'd like.
- [Doting]: Once one has made it past most of her self-made boundaries, Orchid comes across as a pony who knows how to treat those she cares about with as much affection and understanding as she can muster. To some, this can become a little suffocating, but once one has known her for a while they know she means well. She can get overly concerned for the welfare of her companions, but normally backs off if they don't need her help.
- [Self-Conscious/Wary]: Orchid tends to be hyper-aware of how she interacts with her environment-- Did she bite down on that plate too hard? Stomp her hoof too quickly? Talk too loudly? She's very cautious about upsetting others, even though no one seems to really care, and spends a great deal of time attempting to get reassurance from outside sources in spite of the fact that no one seems to notice when she does make a mistake.
- [Easy to Read]: Though she does come across as a withdrawn individual, it's pretty easy to understand what she's feeling at any given time. Her face conveys emotions easily, and often changes so frequently that it doesn't register with her anymore; At her core, she can't really hide emotions-- Which is something she appreciates, since she has a hard time verbally expressing how she feels more often than not, and tends to only become more nonverbal the longer she's in a stressful situation.
- [Determined]: In any situation, Orchid wants nothing more than to overcome her own personal obstacles. When presented with a challenge, she doesn't back down--She knows she has issues that she needs to face, and on the daily finds herself pushing past more and more that used to stop her in her tracks when she was young.
- : Orchid is a pony who, even after years of knowing what it is, still has a hard time balancing her personality with her talent. Her mark didn't come until later in life for her, and she had already developed a personality that made her talent hard to come to terms with-- Leaving her fighting tooth and hoof for every bit of progress she could manage over the years. There is a lot more to her than what is written here; She has the capacity to be a leader, to be playful, etc-- But a laundry list of personality traits does not give a full impression of a character, and a picture is worth a thousand words. ; ) I look forward to letting everyone see her develop further along down the line.
Cutiemark: A megaphone! [Why yellow??? we just don't KNOW, color could change?? potentially]
What does it mean?: Her talent pertains mostly to inspiring and enthusing others through her voice; Motivating them to be the best they can be, even when their morale is at its lowest. When she's on stage, she doesn't speak for herself, but for the sake of those in the act and in the audience--
How did she get it?: Much like every cliche cutiemark story ever, she got hers at a talent show-- Kind of. She was forced into the position of announcer due to her loud voice and lack of "actual skill" in anything by her peers, and found herself getting more and more into the idea the longer she thought about it. The day came, and the crowd was less than pleasant-- Recent happenings had left most of the village's population unhappy and frustrated, and they had only came out of obligation for one reason or another. Despite this, Orchid went out as confidently as she could manage, and spoke to the audience with as much enthusiasm as she could muster.
Most of what she said was praise for relatively underwhelming performances, but the enthusiasm with which she spoke about her peers made the audience listen-- Drew their attention, and held it until she was prepared to introduce the first act. The students behind the curtain found themselves abuzz with a new found motivation to put their best hooves forward, and performed accordingly-- Making the show a success, despite its rough start.
At the end of the show, everypony stood beside each other, proud and excited-- And when Orchid saw the way the crowd and students had changed, her cutiemark appeared-- Inviting a secondary round of applause from everyone present, much to her embarrassment.
Miscellaneous Info/Hobbies/Preferences/Magic Effects(???)etc:
- Orchid got her cutiemark far later than most of her peers-- Second to last in her class, actually. She's had some experience with vocal music, art, and dance but wouldn't really consider them anything more than hobbies.
- She enjoys cool weather and warm/spicy foods, but loathes getting ill as a result of cold weather or overly spicy food. Truly, a tragic existence. What a poor horse.
- She does exist in the main universe (kind of??? might be a few slight canon divergences here and there but it's mostly locations), and has had brief brushes with canon characters, but finds herself off-put by how frequently they seem to draw trouble to themselves and those around them. She can't comprehend how they manage to keep going, and admittedly doesn't want to-- They're living their lives, and she's living hers. Time to keep it that way.
- She's got terrible eyesight, but tends to remove her glasses when she's on stage in order to "better connect with the audience" When she first started out, this method led to several falls off stage, but she's since gotten better and claims that it's an effective tool of the trade. (It's not)
- Her father was an Earth pony and her mother was a Pegasus; They still live in the village where she was born, and don't get into contact with Orchid unless it's absolutely necessary.
- Due to her frequent traveling, Orchid doesn't own a lot of anything-- She buys what she needs, and only indulges in luxuries when she feels that she's earned it-- Despite the fact that she does, in fact, like jewelry and fancy clothing.
- Her gestures and movements tend to be on the smaller side, out of respect for the personal space of others, and she's very mindful of the noises she makes in the presence of others as well-- No loud laughter/crying, that sort of thing.
- She's a physically affectionate pony, but is usually a little too hesitant to actually ask those she's close to if they'd like a hug, or something. More often than not, others do the hugging for her.
- She's pretty alright with taking care of herself when she's sick, but can tend to get overbearing if she's attempting to help another friend.
- Orchid is physically strong, and tends to be very reluctant to use her strength when others are around.
- Poison Joke(?): She loses her voice and instead makes a long series of various whining noises. Said noises vary in volume but tend to be very grating and can become preeeetty annoying pretty fast.
- Have I mentioned that she can't shut the fuck up because she definitely can't once you get her going
- Likes (Cont): Snuggling, warm baths, music, sleep, good conversations, laughing (??), quiet time (selective), etc.
- Dislikes (Cont???): Yelling/loud noises, being restricted (physically/psychologically), overly warm weather, heights, overly invasive ponies, bugs????
Alright, that's. That's enough of me endlessly rambling about my garbage horse oc?? I'll be uploading a better/larger ref soon because I have, so much art of her built up from de-stress-sketching
Do not re-upload my work on other websites without my knowledge/consent, please!
