I was just in this mood to draw Deku Link from Majora's Mask. I really love Deku Link, because I really love Dekus. There's just something about them I think is awesome. They always seem to be very angry or very sad. It seems to me that they're kind of rejects, both in Termina and Hyrule. Perhaps it's because they are living plants, and not really flesh and blood, and therefore not accepted by the other races. Maybe this is why many of them have turned so hostile. But I really like the little plant guys.So anyway, near the beginning of the game, after you've been turned into a Deku and gotten stranded with Tatl, there's this little tree right next to where you go into Termina. It's a rather sad little tree, with a really depressing face. If you go up to it, Tatl says it looks like you... sad, and forlorn. At first it kind of weirded me out, but I've been thinking about it recently. Why is the tree sad? Was it cursed? Was it not always a tree? It makes you wonder. MM really is a very sad and dark game, but that makes it beautiful.
So here's Link and the sad tree. I just want to take that tree home with me and plant it in my backyard.

I know why the tree's sad, but it's hard to explain. :\ I'll try anyway.
The masks in MM holds someone's soul, and the Deku mask hold the soul of another Deku tree's son. I don't know the whole story really, but if you watch the credits, then you see the dad crying in front of the tree. Really depressing. :\

The tree was actually the Deku butler's son, cursed by the Skull Kid. Near the end of the ending credits, you see the butler mourning at the tree.

Yes, I've realized that since, and now my questions about the tree are answered. I believe I drew this when I was still playing MM for the first time. MM is such a beautiful, emotional, and complex game... it contains so many inner stories .
So Link got his Deku form, and subsequent Deku mask, from the spirit of the little Deku child who was cursed and turned into a tree. It really is very haunting.

I guess thats how it could have happened. I just though the skull kid turned Link into the scrub, and being returned to his original state got him the Deku mask. But now that I think about it, the other 2 transformation masks come from dead characters, so the Deku Mask probably did have something to do with the tree/dead Deku scrub...
But then again, Link doesn't ever really help the tree in any way, so the mask could simply be a result of Link reverting from his Deku scrub form, via Song of Healing...
...And now my brain hurts little.

wow! pretty awesome, and yeah majora's mask is the best zelda ever, it's actually the reason i play zelda at all.
you're right MM is dark, sad, onirical(like it's just a weird dream you can't wake up from) and very unique and thats why i love it, and all zeldas eiji aonuma has been involved.
again, you're right about the dekus i love their tribal and hostile way of living, that and the harsh life gorons have to go trough in winter, the sensitive and tragic side of the zoras and all the mellancolly of everyone and every creature that dwells in ikana....

I spent hours trying to get back through that door... the mystery that tree held has always intrigued me. Not even hours a single day, either. Whenever I play that game, I get this tingly sense of nostalgia and mystery as if I've opened a box of forgotten but unresolved memories.
You've really captured the feel of the game, here. The only critique I have for you is of the eyes of the tree, and that the background could be a little darker.
But really, I love what you've done with this.

I've tried to get back through the door too. I think inside of the clock tower is the most mysterious place in the game... it just feels to me like it has a secret...

Wow, I don't know who came up with that theory, but it's a great one. It makes sense too. That would even explain why the butler says Link reminds him of his son. Wow, I never thought of it this way...
