Description
“So. . . care to explain what you were doing when this occurred?”
“No.”
Rhyn puffed a sigh, suppressing his frustration by opting to focus on wrapping Kael’s arm rather than acknowledge his obstinance. The boy was actively avoiding Rhyn’s gaze by staring pointedly at nothing on the floor, likely in an effort to hide his shame. Even in his relatively short career, Rhyn had seen plenty of grown men struggle when dealing with the pain associated with broken bones, so as tough as the child was, it came as no surprise to find Kael had been crying when he was brought back with a broken arm. And since he was convinced it was a sign of weakness, crying was one if those things Kael tried to suppress at at costs. That was expected. What Rhyn didn’t anticipate however, was the child breaking a limb in the first place. While he wouldn’t classify him as lucky, per say, the child had more than enough capacity to avoid becoming victim to such accidents, even when considering all the roof jumping he engaged in on a daily basis. Kael was arguably one of the most capable telekinetics around. However, this time it seemed something had thrown him for a loop, so much so that it left him to hit the ground far harder and clumsier than Rhyn would have guessed possible. It was disconcerting.
“You know. . .”
Rhyn finished wrapping the gauze and pulled a roll of tape wrap out of his bag, gingerly coaxing Kael’s arm back toward him after the boy had instinctively pulled away. “It might help if your interactions didn’t always end in you pissing someone off.”
Kael’s eyes narrowed but he continued to glare at the ground. “Thanks, dad. I’ll be sure to file that away.”
Rhyn expression fell flat. “If I was your father, you and I would have already discussed that your- approach to diplomacy is severely lacking.”
Kael rolled his eyes with a snort. “Then we agree, you’re not my father. So get off my back.”
“I can’t do that,” Rhyn said sternly, ensuring the bandage remained flush against Kael's arm.
“What I do is none of your business.” Kael growled, his voice growing louder with each word.
“No, you’re absolutely right,” Rhyn replied evenly as he continued to work. “Collin already loathes you enough to be looking for a reason to turn you in. When he finds out you've been cooperating with the person Lias has been seeking, it’s not like it’ll put you and everyone else involved in mortal danger.”
Kael’s glare immediately shot back to Rhyn, his eyes glinting with fury. “Don’t treat me like I’m a-”
“Child?” Rhyn finished, staring back at the angry boy without so much as blinking. “Like it or not, that’s what you are.”
“Shut up!” Kael shouted, slamming his good hand on the chair’s seat beneath him. The sudden movement sent a jolt of pain shooting from his shoulder into his injured arm causing him to wince. “W- what do you know anyway? Id-idiot!”

So, there's a lot left on this AU I have yet to finish (like the shadow from the window and frame, colors, etc.) but I think I need a break from it. OTL That most likely means this is as complete as it'll get, but hopefully my next attempt will end up finished. >.>
