Description This is my first foray into full-background vectors, and I pretty much vectored everything except for the top half of Luna without tracing. Getting the shading to look right was insanely tough, hopefully I'll be able to refine my style and technique for my next full-background non-trace vector. Please point out anything that looks off so I can fix it and work on improving

I was driving to lunch about a week ago and saw a "Roadwork Ahead - Fines Doubled!" sign and immediately thought of doing this vector I was pretty busy with work, helping admin the MLP-VectorClub, and a couple other projects though, so I wasn't able to work on it until this weekend. I used blurring and gradients to produce the glow and shading effects on the stars. I had the most difficulty getting the shading right on the background objects, and I'm still trying to figure out if I should shade the road differently. If you have any suggestions, please let me know! As always, feel free to critique, and I hope you like it! Svg can be found here: [link]

Also, don't worry, I haven't forgotten to do my previously promised extra "evil face" vector, but I've been super busy and I really wanted to get this one done.

If you do use this (or any of my other artwork), please let me know so I can check out what you make with it!

Looks great, the sky is amazing, the trees look great, Luna is being amused rather well, and the clever use of the doubling joke was perfect!

As far as improvements go, the road might look a bit better with a radial gradient instead of a linear one so the fact that this is a bend in it would be more emphasized. The curves on the lines at the edge sign look somewhat odd as well, I would probably straighten those out. Also, one of the lines on the fourth tree from the right ends in a rather large flat base which would probably look better more pointed. The gradients on the tree tops should also probably be flipped horizontally and the edge of the sign should probably be a bit darker because it looks like the light is coming from the top right of the image based on the road and face of the sign.

Yeah, that probably sounds harsher than it should but I'm generally rather blunt when it comes to suggestions so don't take it wrong.

You also should probably remove the color guide from the svg file because it increases the size of the file by a lot.

Thanks for the feedback

Yeah I wasn't quite sure how to go about shading the road, but looking back on it now I definitely should've added a few random strokes to give it a bit of a texture. It's hard to get a good looking radial stroke in Inkscape for something like that, but I could create another, lighter shape around the edge and use blurring + clipping to get a really good shading effect on it. I agree about the curved edges in the road sign, I actually changed it to be flat, but then it looked too thick so I went back to curved... Maybe if I tapered it down a bit instead... I was trying to get the lighting to be coming from pretty much directly above (which is where I imagined the moon would be), so I think the tree gradients might be ok, but yeah the sign should probably have a different shading then. Also, I can't believe I left my color guide in the svg

Again, thanks for the critique! I always appreciate constructive feedback as it's the best way to improve for my next vector

Yeah, the gradients in Inkscape could just use some work in general. Sometimes they work exactly how I want but others they just don't work at all. The lighting from above makes sense. For some reason I didn't really think about that...oh well. This is how I imagine the sign should be, but that's just me. [link]

And I know I have accidentally left my reference images in vectors on multiple occasions. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them in my stash do.

I'm happy to be able to help out with you, especially considering you're helping me out as well!

At first I thought this would be a pun on the Double Fine studio. This is still pretty funny though.
