Yeah, he can turn into a bird - a peregrine falcon. He can fly only as a bird. He can stop midway and have feathers and junk (think Howl's Moving Castle), but it's physically stressful, so he keeps one or the other form usually.
THis drawing is AU, though. Just kind of something drawn for the exchange, so I didn't stick to canonical designs.

It's because he's magic. Other people have different powers. Transfiguration is rare.
His friend is a ward mage, meaning he can create energy shields. His other friend is a cancermage - basically, a healer who is so powerful, she can cause tissues to go into mitosis overdrive and become cancerous.

I scan, but then I cntrl-L and cntrl-U to clean up the scanny bits. And fixed the border edges by copying one side over to the other.

I cannot for the life of me get watercolours to mix into the colours I want them to be. D:
Might have something to do with my watercolour pans being like... uh... almost 10 years old, though. >_> Dunno.

I bought the "Van Gogh" pocket set. it came with 12 half-pans for $20 in alittle case that fits in my purse (size = main reason I bought it, eheh).
I did a lot of muddy mixed colors at first, but then I started to punch it up with purer pigments as I worked on the details.

I like Van Gogh water colour tubes. They come in some funky colours.
But ja, those colours seem just about like mine, which just confirms that I epic fail at watercolours lately. xD If only I could keep the epic and leave the fail behind. xD;;

i dunno, it looked like crap until I mized up a lot of watery purple and just laid that in where the shadows would be to create more depth.

Yuh, I bought a purple (perm. blue violet) a while back for doing that. Payne's grey helps with that too.
I just looked up some watercolour half pan sets, and they're not as expensive as I thought. 8D Yey.
But no buying now. Since I just spent like...$160 on art stuff while in the US. XD

I did watercolor a lot when I was in elementary school, so maybe some of its stuck unconsciously (i still tend to over-water my pigments and cause my paper to buckle). But, lol. Got ot get all that knowedge back now.

WhOo! Epic Action Scene!
For 2 years of no watercolors, this is still pretty tight. It's because of your knowledge of light and darks and eye for details. I like the soft blending of colors in the background, that's something I haven't gotten around to practicing myself.
And yea, you were definitely amping up (the coolness that is) Rivek there, going in mid-transformation and all that.
One wonders though how the bird half is managing to hold that other sword
