My beautiful kimono girl finally finished.A 15-19 year old (in the project I'm planning to include her, the story lasts 4 years in total), Hayate's adoptive sister, despite the fact that he was the one responsible for taking care of her, people tend to think she is the older one because of her apparent maturity and height (159 cm, pretty tall for her age) making her seem older than she really is, until you get to know her that is, Being 8 years younger that Hayate, and being his only family to top, he had the bad habit of spoiling her quite a bit, though according to her, he is a really sweet and kind brother, going as far as making her a kimono from scratch on her birthday, and contrary to her slim and gorgeous psyche, she is a really big eater, some people state that, when hungry, can chow as much food as 10 people combined, not a really pretty sight.
The kimono, umbrella and background flowers were made by Copic markers, I do think I got a little to carried away though, I just got them :/

This is stunning! I absolutely adore the ancient Japanese style of art with it's use of pattern and color and you clearly were able to implement such into your work. Her face is so beautiful and the geisha/oiran influence adds to her beauty (the eyebrows are my favoriteΒ ). The only real critique I have is that the piece is lacking areas of rest. There is so many patterns, my eye kind of got lost and overwhelmed. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the small, medium, large principle, but her design definitely has small details, the patterns, and medium details, the face, but is missing large details/areas of rest which are key to creating a balanced character design. There are a lot of videos on YouTube and other places that do a much better job of explaining if you wanna check it out, I suggest Kienan Lafferty's channel. Anyway, taking out some of the pattern and just leaving solid color or white, like on her skin, her design can feel more cohesive and less overwhelming. Besides from that, this is a really strong character design and your technical skills are top-notch! I can't wait to see what you do with her in the futureΒ Β

gotta say that the complexity of the patterns really stand out to me!!

Normally I tend to not enjoy pieces with clashing colors, but they way you've colored this is anything but normal.
Her very subtle warm colors gives off a vibrant life, the red, blue, and yellow stripes reminding me of summer and renewal, and the black coloring on the kimono helps the other colors standout.
And I especially like (what I think are cherry blossom trees) on her arms that sprout up from the stripes on her sleeve - making it appear that she brings new life to what she touches.
Definitely something that should be observed slows so you can enjoy all the subtle details.
