Description Another view of Coney Island.

Shot in 1999 with a vintage Kodak Brownie camera (127mm film). Enhanced/grunged slightly with texture and misc Photoshop adjustments May 2008.

Trivia: I wanted to capture only the "Bar & Grill" storefront, not the bit of different business on the left. But the viewfinder of the Brownie camera I used is very "off" (it's not a "thru the lens" view) and the lens captures more to the left than what I had intended. It's something I struggle with whenever I use this camera.

yeah, it's very american pic.. as far as i know from TV & cinema i've always been curious how close is my image of USA to reality, cause i've never been there ;>

Here's what the USA looks like: much of what you see on TV is made in California (in Hollywood), and that's just what the Los Angeles area looks like (lots of new buildings and sun). Actually, now that I think of it, many TV shows and movies are now filmed in Canada , not USA/California. A few TV programs & movies are made in New York, which looks older.

California is only ~160 years old. My "Corner Drugstore" photo is about as old a building as you'll see in California. There ARE old buildings (built 1930s-1940s) in Calif, but before ~1930 most of Calif was farms (except the biggest cities), and older buildings (before ~1930) are mostly just barns and "cowboy" (old west) towns here and there.

I'm a Calif native, where most buildings are sort of new, and that might be why I love the old buildings of the east coast so much.

I also lived on the east coast, in Boston which was founded in the 1600s. I'd also go visit New York City, which is also old.

I prefer Europe! Nice n old n beautiful. (My grandparents are Czech and Russian). When I was in Italy, for example, I was shocked to see 1000 year old buildings!

Don't be sorry, it's nice to learn new things, especially from natives. I've never complained about living in Europe, I'm proud of being European, but at the same time I'm really curious how life is somewhere on the other side of the globe. My knowledge is based mainly on TV shows - 'Six Feet Under', 'Dexter' or 'Northern Exposure' (btw, really like them..), but they'll never show me truth about USA, I guess. One friend of mine has grandparents living in some small town near Chigago, she visites them every year and simply hates it, cause there's nothing to do in the suburbs without car, every house and yard looks the same, and locals seemed to be total morons - well, that's what she told me
