The Makers Bride
Plea

A silver wolf quietly stalks to the top of a grassy hill, its brilliant color standing out sharply against the viridian backdrop even in the darkness of night.  Reaching the apex, it rests on its haunches, carefully sniffing the air.  Satisfied of its solitude, the creature begins its mournful song, crying its grief to the heavens with magnificent, haunting notes.

A warm summer breeze caresses the land, rippling the grass like waves across a sea, ruffling the wolf's fur.  It turns it's bright blue eyes skyward, eyes taking in the inky black speckled with diamond bright stars.  Starting it's song anew, the creature opens its jaws, revealing ivory white canines.

"Why is your song so sad, little one."

The deep voice echoed, reverberating from the rock, the trees, the very air.

The creature tensed, sniffing the air, but still finding no indication of an intruder, it turned its gaze skyward.

There was a rumbling laugh, and a gentle breeze moved over the wolf's head, soothing it and tickling through its fur.  "Why do you cry?"  It was softer now, entreating an answer.

Turning its nose into the wind, the wolf lapped the air with its tongue, tasting it.  An answering smile, gentle and sincere, tickled against its mind.

"I mourn the fates of my brothers and sisters," the creature thought, hesitantly.

Thoughtfully, the voice asked, "Which brothers and sisters?  For you have many."

"I mourn for my brethren that live only by the will of others.  By the will of those who abuse their gifts," the beast answered.

There was a hearty sigh that shook the ground and made the trees tremble.

"I mourn as well, little one.  I mourn for the those who abuse the gifts I have given them, for those that have turned their backs upon me."

The wolf crouched low, placing its nose upon its paws in subjugation.  "Those that turned their backs from you are long since dust.  Please, show kindness, for we have remorse."  It looked pleadingly to the sky.  There was no answer, so the creature hung it's head.  Sorrow filled it's heart.  Throwing back its head, the wolf let out a soul wrenching howl.

"You return once again, little one," the words echoed through her surroundings the next night as the wolf approached the hilltop.  "Will your song be as sad tonight?"  The wind ruffled gently through the fur at her shoulder, caressing down the creature's back.

"My song," the wolf responded, "will be sad until my brethren are free."

There was a great sigh, and the air grew heavy.  "Your focus is to narrow.  When you say you wish to free your brothers and sisters, you only mean those in servitude.   You don't wish to free those that are slaves to their own power?"

The beast pondered this for a moment, the breeze tickling her senses.

"I would teach them of the error of their ways," it thought at last.  "I would teach them, that they would be able to choose for themselves, to follow your will or not."

"And then your song would be happy?"  There was hope shining through her mind.  The world held its breath waiting for her answer.

The wolf opened its jaws, grinning.  "Yes, then my song would be happy."

"And would you sing to me every day?"

"If that is your desire," the creature bowed low.

"Would you give yourself to me?"

It's brows furrowing in confusion, the wolf looked to the sky.  "But I already have –"

"Spiritually.  Your earthly body may already be claimed, but what I seek is your soul."

"Gladly, would I give myself to you," the creature replied joyfully.

A great sigh filled the air, the world started breathing again.

"Then it shall be so.  I will aid you, my heart.  My power will be your power, to bend at your will on your quest to free the enslaved and misguided.  I shall be with you every step of the way."

Overwhelming delight coursing through its blood, the creature threw its head back, and the song that poured from its throat was filled with happiness.

"You seem to be in a good mood this evening," a gruff voice called from behind the beast.

The wolf turned, its fur shimmering, its form wavering as the creature unfolded to stand upright.

"Maferath," the woman called, a grin wide upon her face.  She ran to the warrior, her slim arms wrapping tightly around him.  She grinned, a melodious giggle escaping her as Maferath lifted her, twirling her around on the hilltop.

Maferath's mouth claimed hers as he lowered her back to the ground.  Gently, he pressed his lips lovingly against her softer ones, his tongue teasing along her lower lip.

As they broke from the kiss, both gasping, the woman pulled back to gaze up at her husband.

"I have important news, Maferath," she said excitedly.  "It will mean all the difference to our people!"

Brushing her hair back from her face, Maferath pressed his lips gently to the forehead of the woman before him.  "Okay, I will listen to your news.  But first," he gave her a mock scowl," you will eat.  You ran off again without touching your dinner."  He smiled down at her as he took her hand, pulling her toward their small cabin.

     "Let's go home, Andraste."

Niiiifty! 8D

There are a couple of slip-ups, where you gave the wolf a gender before revealing Andraste as the wolf. I say this only as critique, because, over all, I really enjoy this piece and eagerly await more!

Andraste the mage... The more I think on this, the more I think this is DA-canon and that devs just don't want us to know yet. =3

Yeah, it was really hard to write the wolf part, without using a name and such. Thank you so much for taking the time to read it.

I've always thought it would be funny if Andraste were a mage just because of how the Chantry treats mages in general. How they could've perverted her teachings so far that those like her would be locked away.

YES! Exactly my point! 8D
This is why I think the developers have already decided that Andraste WAS, in fact, a mage! and that the Chantry really is just fucked up (pardon my language) completely!

Ha, you are most welcome. I truly enjoyed reading it!
