Description Drosolacerta capensis, also known as the sundews lizard, is a small animal native to forests and marshlands in mediterranean climates. The creature earned its name for its tail's striking similarity to the leaves of the carnivorous plant Drosera capensis. The small tentacles sprouting from its tail are covered in a thin layer of sweet-smelling sticky saliva, strong enough to trap unsuspecting insects looking for a snack. You will often find them sunbathing with their tails hanging down, this to prevent the drops from sticking to moss and other non-foods. When prey has been caught, the sundews lizard uses its long tongue to grab the insect and pull it into its mouth, refreshing the saliva on its tail in the process. They are gifted climbers and swift runners, reaching up to 20 km/h while sprinting. When faced with a threat they can no longer escape from, they can cast off their tails. However, it takes several months for these to grow back, which forces the animal to hunt, leaving it at risk for exhaustion compared to its usual feeding habits.

A dragon/lizard-ish creature inspired by my favourite plant: Drosera capensis. The plant is very easy to care for and will take care of your fruit fly problem while also looking pretty and unique. They're cheap to boot.

Photoshop, time could be anywhere between 4 and 6 hours.

This creature has such a cool design and concept! The way you drew the tail feels really accurate compared to reality of what the plant looks like

Thank you! Me, too. I used iguana feet as a reference for this little guy.

Winter was coming. I think they stayed outside a little too long (but keeping them inside all the time is not good either, I've been told. they need a drop in temperature. Perhaps letting them stay outside during the day and keeping them inside at night is the trick? Or a cool cellar).

Yeah, I'll have to agree that there's a lot of fetish art around that I wish filters existed for, as well as a lot of fan art that doesn't present an original take on the characters. Thankfully original quality art does still exist, and I'll do my very best to belong to that quality corner as much as I can. ^^

p.s.:Β I collect some of my favourite quality art by others here, in case you want to see some other nice stuff: www.deviantart.com/the-fox-of-…

Oooo really interesting concept! It reminds me a bit oh a painting a saw a little while ago with a similar-ish concept with a tree frog and a different carnivorous plant I can’t remember lol

really cool concept and very nice execution! The only bit of commentary I can give is that the fly doesn't really looks trapped in the picture. I think having the "tentacles" wrap a bit more around it would make it look more complete

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Foxofwonders In reply to Zarche [2019-08-16 21:55:08 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yeah, you're right. I added the fly completely at the end, so it's true I didn't really think of mixing it in with the tail.
