You need to go deeper. Doing fanart of artists who are doing fanarts isn't enough. Try to do that when standing on your head, singing theme of Soviet marines in Swahili, while drawing personifications of ancient greek epic heroes in baroque xylographing method. Now, that would be an allegory of inability of choice.
But idea is entertaining. When/where emulation ends?
