And here's another Batman Forever character fan poster that I did, and this time, for Nicole Kidman as Chase Meridian. Warner Bros. wanted a love interest, and the Batchlers were against the returning of Kim Basinger's Vicki Vale and Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman/Selina Kyle. So, the Batchlers gave Batman a psychiatrist for a love interest, just to center the theme of duality.

Janet came up with the last name Meridian, because she knew that a female love interest would help Batman walk the dangerous line and keep him on an even keel. And Lee loves the name Chase, because he grew up on Fred Astaire. So, he gave her her first name. Her name was a triple pun: Not only she chases after Batman, but as a psychologist, was involved in chasing the meridian -- in other words, chasing after the halfway point in human beings, one that is neither too high nor too low (i.e. bringing balance to human lives). She also chased after the halfway point between Bruce Wayne and Batman and tried to reconcile her love for both sides of the same man.

Joel Schumacher originally cast Rene Russo as Chase Meridian when Joel wanted Michael Keaton to return as Batman/Bruce Wayne. When Val Kilmer was cast, Rene was just a little older for Val, and the role of Chase went to Nicole Kidman, whom Joel is a fan of, because she did Dead Calm when she was about 18 or 19, and she came from Australia.
