Description The short version: shipping discourse is one thing, but when you bring flat-out pedophilia into the equation - I'm sorry, you've forced my hand, I have to speak out!

Now, I'm going on the record by saying I DON'T HATE VOLTRON - far from it! I'm just saying that this is an issue I can no longer ignore, and neither can you. I mean, people arguing about shipping in poor taste? Calm your tits, for the love of God, it's just a web series! And it's one that's not transmitted into everybody's homes, believe me, I know! And what I've heard tonight, about statutory rape seeping its way into the fanfic aspect? Mark me, dealing with a pedophile who watches this show is ten thousand times worse than dealing with a rabid shipper! ...of course, I'm not sure how the two relate, but whatever.
In short: by being too hardcore a fan, you are actually altering the public image of your show, and end up turning it into something that seems unwatchable for regular people.

Of course, that's not the half of it.

Fandom is nice. I have my fandoms too.
Sometimes there is just a show you like more than others for no objective reason. That's the mystery of art. That is perfect.

But what is bad is becoming so obsessed with an unique fandom that you forget anything else.
How many artists have lost their creativity thanks to fan art? How many viewers are missing great new shows before they watch a same episode 16 times?
And even worse, too much fandom is repulsive for other people, and in the end, you won't be able to share your passion for a show with one another because you'll scare him.
It can sadly go even further, as the incidents of violence over trivial conversations about fictional characters tend to get more and more frequent. And even though you are probably never been part of an incident like this, you should be aware that it is only the extreme of a global tendency of identifying and defining oneself almost exclusively through fandom.

Stop this phenomenon. Stop this "fandom abuse". Be reasonable and responsible fans. It'll be good both for you and your favorite show's reputation.

I don't hate Voltron, but I don't like when fans are completely obssessed over Klance. Klance is NOT my favourite ship, but I love Kallura, because Kallura is a really cute ship, that is NOT toxic. I don't understand why do fans ship Klance?! I don't see them as a couple, but I only see them as best friends. I don't ship Sheith, because they're like BROTHERS! I like their fan-arts in a good way, so I don't think it's really bad! Glad that I'm not some kind of an obssessive yaoi/yuri shipper, who ships ONLY gay ships and rants on STRAIGHT ships! I understand that it's your opinion, but you're taking these kind of things too far. If you repeat these actions, there will be consequences! Maybe you won't listen to me, but I'm telling the truth. You can rant, hate, flame on me, but that WON'T work!

I experienced abuse from those "hardcore shippers" so actually the coin has two sides: not Voltron (yet!!) but some "fans" kept trolling at me because I didn't ship x and y.....

My opinion is that every single fan has their own habits, we shall not force each other, but... I guess, some people will never understand things and respect each other.
God save us from hating fandoms / great series/whatever because of this...

I have to be increasingly more careful in this fandom the longer I'm in it for fear I'll start to forget why I joined in the first place.

Unfortunately I've seen a LOT of this bs and unfortunately it's only gotten worse seeing as guilty parties have dragged creators and VA's into this embarrassing mess, and try to rip their heads off whenever they say something the fans don't like, or cherry picking rather than taking in everything they've said such as 'interperate the ages how you want. Please be kind to each other' being the most ignored.
And all these pedophilia claims are ridiculous, Josh Keaton has brought it up, and it's only a quick google search away to learn that pedophilia applies to those 12 and younger, the other Paladins being paired with Shiro is a different thing altogether, and the shippers shouldn't be getting flake if they age up/down or see these characters at suitable ages But the shitty attitude of a good portion of the fandom has killed any liking I have to the most popular ship (Klance), and unfortunately towards Lance, who was the guy that cemented my interest to the show

Who's talking about pedophilia claims? There's a fic in which Shiro molests toddlers! That was the catalyst for this thing!

The pedophilia claims over shipping have been around well and truely before that stupid fic. That fic is literally about pedophilia, a sick as it is, but you still have people throwing that word around like confetti over situations it doesn't even apply to which isn't any better

I won't dispute it - but isn't there like an age gap limit? Like, you have to be in a certain range for it to be legal?

Depends where you're from since everywhere had different ages of consent. The whole age thing is a mess, there's a video that puts showrunners on the spot saying Shiro is 25, Pidge if 14, the others are late teens as a 'safe zone' though have absolutely no problem having Shiro paired with the others seeing as they've supported art for it. There's a lot of inconsistent information though since one of the showrunners is strongly against child soldiers, and the fact that they were in a Garrison
... sorry if I'm getting a bit wordy but good to have context I guess
