Sorry to hear about your Mum. I do hope she recovers nice and quickly. How good of you and your sister to help out so much.
I'm sure you'll soon catch up with your school work.
All is well with us, thanks for your enquiry.

Well you asked and i couldn't lie and just say i'm fine when its not the whole truth. She'll recover and be back to normal but then she has to make she she exercises a lot and still eats healthy to lose that weight which will take a long time. Yer, its been hard on us, especially me because i always dedicate myself to do more of the cleaning then her. I guess im a little guilty of something. I have a bad habit of constant cleaning instead of doing my homework. If i can find an excuse not to do it i will postpone my homework though i shouldn't. I find cleaning more important lol. Cant work in a dirty environment. hehe.
I hope so, didn't do much yesterday. Like i said hard to find time when i gotta do other things.
Thats great to hear. Anytime.

I can understand how you feel about a dirty environment, I also like a clean and tidy place to work in.
I was taught this by my first boss when I was in training to be a graphic designer. He always said "tidy place, tidy mind"
But, I'm sure you get your homework done in time, and done well too. The loss of "face" when a task is not done in time is a most uncomfortable experience. And judging by your exam results, you will somehow keep a balance in all this. I do have sympathy for you too, a sick parent is an almost unthinkable thing for a son or daughter and will throw out your routine for a while. But, I'm sure once your mother gets into a routine, yours will re establish itself too. And I'm sure she understands your needs too. After all, this is your future!

I know what you mean about the apparent pointlessness of school work. But, quoting my dear old boss again, he said, "It doesn't matter what studying you have done, even what type of degree you achieve at Uni, you learn the art of research and organisation. And the result of this is that you show any employer that you are trustworthy and most of all, you can apply yourself to learning new skills.
My daughter is a prime example of this...........
When she finished her HSC with a good mark, the school said she should do a law/commerce degree. She was horrified, she wanted to enjoy Uni and do a general arts degree. She did it and did well too, getting a first class honours in sociology! And best of all, she really had fun.
Her worst subject at school was maths. At 29, she has just qualified as an insolvency accountant of all things.
Her training for this job was waitressing during her Uni years which taught her people skills, the ability to apply herself and study, taught by her school, and an interest in doing research which is the skill needed for insolvency where she has to winkle out things about the firms going into bankruptcy.
This is all in hindsight, you wouldn't know what use your schooling or even your talking to people on DA is to you at the moment, until you look back in some years and can analyse the thing when you are no longer involved in it.
You will find that everything that happens in life, looked back on, has been useful to your journey which is yours alone.
Life is exciting and interesting, even routines, though repetitive, have their place to keep us going in the right direction for a while, when it is time to change, it changes, and seemingly without much input from us.
I'm sure you will get through all this, you are a strong person and will be stronger at the end.

lol, yer that is very true. You may not use all the things you learnt but atleast you have it there and school helps many other lifeskills like communication and so on.
I have nothing to add because you are completely right though i may not know it yet. I do think however that if i get a good study score (called an ENTER score) that the school may say the same thing to me but i really would like to enjoy myself in an Uni studying art but where can art take you? I know theres a lot but how do you get there? Maybe its easier taking a different path and using my skilld to the best of their ability but i dont know. The only other thing I like is Environment stuff like Global Warming and how people treat the environment and how it wrecks the earth. I also like animals and I wouldn't mind working at a zoo or something.
I am really happy to hear about how successful your daughter is.

You could become a graphic designer, and Art school will give you lots of other links to art related things.
Is there not a careers person to advise you at your school?

I've had a few people on DA lately saying i should be a graphics designer, a new person i just met recently asked me am i a professional graphic designer? hehehe i wish.
Its all money though. I can do art through school but its not the same as an art school outside of school. After i finish year 12 i will go to uni hopefully studying something to do with art. What part i dont know yet. And yes there is a careers person at my school, she is very busy all the time but im sure she'll just ask me what do i want and i'll be like im not really sure. I just know i want to do art but maybe i could do better than that. Maybe arts just a hobby.

No if you love art, do it at uni. Have fun at uni, you're a long time working.
Why not do some research during your summer hols on the internet to find all the subjects related to art? My friend's son was always good at art, like you, he is doing industrial design at uni. He is good at it and enjoying it very much.
There are so many things related to art, and computers come into all of it. Which is good because you seem to enjoy your computer too.
If you go to uni, you get the hecs thingy and pay it back once you start work. I had a friend I dived with who did her forensic science course at uni and once she started work found she hardly noticed the repayments because they were so low. Our daughter will start paying her hecs back as soon as she starts work here.

Your Mip class sounds just the thing to answer some questions for you, yes, quite a coincidence!
Tafe only gives you a diploma, but Uni gives you a degree which is more useful to flash when getting jobs.
Hecs is the loan the government gives you to pay your Uni fees which is lent to you at a very low interest rate and you pay back in quite small amounts once you earn a good working wage.
Hope you enjoy your class tomorrow.

It sounds, actually like you have it all under control. You know a lot about these things already. It doesn't seem fair that you have to choose a career direction so early.
Mind you, if you do a course that you enjoy, at least this will give you a breathing space before you start making decisions.
Louise, (our daughter) found that her career seemed to present itself to her. In all her wildest dreams she would never, when she was choosing a uni course have thought she would have ended up as an accountant.
She just got a job in London to make some money so she could eat. And this was a job chosen for her by an agency. The company, Ernst and Young, wanted general dogs bodies to so filing and stuff.
She joined them and found that insolvency looked interesting. They liked her and took her on full time and eventually someone she worked with, who had returned to Australia phoned her and told her that unless she qualified as an accountant, she would never get a job in Australia like the one she had in London. So, she asked them if they would put her through the exams. She now finds she likes the job.
I do hope you don't mind me quoting Louise all the time, but she has been through what you are going through and seems to have come out ok.
Yes, it has been a great day here, nice and sunny too. I have spent the past few days designing a website for our art society. It makes a nice change from painting!
