I am seriously impressed... I've always come to expect high calibre work from you, so the fact that this one turned out so well is no surprise 
- Their unit insignia can be seen on Deechan's shirt
- The crystal/obsidian-like weapon Deechan is wielding is a technological relic called an 'ether control unit', it also possesses a sentient AI interface. It can be used as shown, Deechan is able to vary the length of either blade and channel her ethereal energy through it (as she's doing now). When not in use, it becomes a bracelet. Sandra gets one too, but not until she's 16 and she's about 14 ~ 15 at this point (in human terms, that is)
- The rune vambrace on Deechan's left arm is used as a magic shield to repel attacks
- Sandra's body suit is made out of a composite mix of high-tech materials woven and bonded on the molecular level to create highly flexible armor that is resistant to most types of damage, even absorbing blunt trauma to some degree. Includes bunny-themed com unit so she can still yak with her friends while she's spell-slinging on the battlefield.
note to others: Deechan and Sandra are also part of the same universe as other characters that Fred has drawn to date, namely Ran, Salvo, Xian and Prime.

Ive seen "something " like those in real life actually. They are based off a training shoe. They help you develop your calf muscles to jump higher and run faster.
My oldest son had a pair when he played football in high school. I think they still sell them in Eastbay athletic catalog.
Now i have to find a pair for my youngest who is now getting ready for high school football....

They were popular in bodybuilding for a while and I have a pair that I have yet to use. Kramer had them on that "Jimmy" episode of Seinfeld.

They're featured in one of the ESPN comedy spots they do for Sportcenter also. As you said, for building up stronger calf muscles.
