Thanks

The heart is part of one of Samildanach's creations "Naiya OCTOBER RUST" available at Rendo [link]

Other little hearts I use are either from RDNA "Hearts from traveler" [link] or "kromekat's Classic Heart Object" free at Rendo [link]

Oh! Thanks so much for sharing! *adds to wishlist*
Now back to the colors. Do you get those directly on the 3D programs or is it postwork? Cinema allows you to change materials on imported objs, or Poser lets you keep material zones even when exporting an entire scene as an obj?
Sorry for all the questions, heh. Your stuff is just so well done I'd like to learn more about how you get it to that stage,

The basic color setup is mostly done in C4D but I always do postwork on the rendered pictures, increase carefully some saturation and change colors on selected items. But if you plan to do this you have to keep this in mind when lighting the scene otherwise your postwork will kill the complete pic. C4D supports postwork very much, it has a multilayered rendering engine, means I get always at least 6-10 layers when I render one pic: RGB, shadows, ambient occlusion, specular, depth, reflection and on individual layers the objects: for example "skin person 1", "clothes person 2", "all aliens", "ships in background" etc. I am free to select what I want. Those makes it much easier to do postwork on individual items. I can select a clothing item in photoshop and do individual changes to its color without the need to rerender it or without the tedious task to make a mask for it.

I import the poser-items as obj into C4D but with the help of the interPoser-Plugin, so they come completely textured into C4D. Then I retexture them using the material zones or I enhance the existing textures with some of the nice shaders from C4D

Oooooh, I like that idea of multilayered rendering. I have Poser 7, but I am a DS user since I cannot for the life of me figure out the way Poser archives content, heh, but I'm working on it. Do you know if Poser can do the multilayered rendering? C4D is a tad bit out of my budget at the moment, :-P
Thanks so much for sharing. I have saved this to keep it as future reference,

Mmhhhh... I think I saw some addon for Poser or DS to do ML-rendering, but I can't tell for sure. Sorry, but all those render add-ons for Poser+DS are no longer in my focus

C4D is pricey but maybe you are eligible for a student/teacher edition? They are quite cheap...

Student, maybe, if they count grad students, heh, I'll look into it, thanks, . Believe me, I'm not a fan of add-ons either, and C4D does modelling too, right? I want a modeller that doesn't croak (I'm looking at you, Hexagon....) every two seconds, and if C4D can do *all* that, I'm certainly going to consider it. One last question before I stop spamming your page, sorry, :-P How's the learning curve for C4D? Would someone like me that's fairly new at this 3D stuff have a hard time learning it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Fredy3D In reply to angelus-regina [2010-08-04 19:31:35 +0000 UTC]

C4D has a full grown modeller already in the base package. I am using him all the time to correct missing morphs in clothes, to correct pokethroughs and to cut and paste different clothing items or spaceships together

C4D is a wonder of stability. Normally it does not crash, all crashes I have encountered were only due to some 3rd party plugins and even those are not very common.

The learning curve is not steep. Some years back I checked all major 3D packages and C4D was the only one which I understood from the beginning. Check the trial and if you got questions then drop me a note no problem

Im often stuned by the backgrounds in your devs. They are very beautiful! How do you make them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Fredy3D In reply to stormfrog [2008-12-16 17:39:37 +0000 UTC]

Most of the times it is one of three options:

1. I have a large stock of licensed background-images and I took a lot of own photos which I use and modify. I also bought a lot of brushes for clouds and so on to fine tune the pics in photoshop.

2. For a 3D background like in this pic I used a city building model multiple times to create a background-wall and added some scifi industrial models for the the right scene and then some combined pipes and a lot of "junk" stuff for the scenery.

3. A combination of 1+2: 3d-models + background-pic

Mind-blowing, like most of your work.

Out of curiosity, how long did the backgrounds take you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Fredy3D In reply to glyder319 [2008-12-11 19:41:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The effort for the backgrounds depends...

1. I have a large stock of licensed bg-images and own photos which I use and modify and do some photoshopping. this takes 1-2 hours to get the bg done. That's the standard use case.

2. For a 3D background like in this pic I used a city building model to create a bg-wall and added some scifi industrial models for the the right scene and then some combined pipes and a lot of junk stuff for the scenery. Arrangement, re-texturing and lighting this scene took about 3-4 hours.

3. And then there are combined bg, 3d + bg-pic, that's mostly 2-3 hours but depending allways on the complexity of the scene
