Description
This is a Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar as seen HERE . When it turns into a butterfly, it has the same colors. The red and black design is really cool. The day I captured this, I was lucky to have encountered it along my brief trek on the Sacramento trail.
Oh... When the 'horns' are out apparently it's a type of defense, perhaps a warning of sorts.
