I saw this photo of the chestnut horse and instantly thought he looked like a carousel horse and that is what I had decided to do. Just draw him all fancied up like a carousel horse. But when I really sat down and looked at the picture I couldn't do it. He looked too free, too happy galloping through the pasture to bind him to a pole to spin in circles for the rest of his life. That's when the idea came to me. He could still be incorporated as a carousel horse but be free at the same time.

The full message with this drawing is no matter how people see you and no matter what is holding you down, the only way that you can live a free life and be who you were meant to be is within in you. No one is going to live your life for you, only you can do that. So if you want to be something, it is whatever you can imagine and not what is outwardly seen and nothing can hold you back but yourself.

He is a carousel horse. He is bound by a pole holding him in place. It is up to him, his mind and his spirit "to be free".
