I think Bumi's probably taller than Iroh. Β The men of Sozin's line aren't exactly known for their height. Β Even Ozai was average at best. Β Whereas Bumi is built like his grandfather Hakoda.

Commander, actually. Β The naval equivalent of a lieutenant colonel (at least in the American Navy). Β If he was of equal rank to Iroh he'd be an admiral.
In the American Navy (on which the ranking in the Avatar universe is likely based, due to the fact that it's an American cartoon), the officer ranking is as follows:
Ensign --> Lieutenant (junior grade) --> Lieutenant --> Lieutenant Commander --> Commander --> Admiral rankings
