Description
'Jaime... my name is Jaime.'

Does this mean my arty colour block is over?

I wanted to draw what was, in my opinion, the most moving scene in the whole of Game of Thrones; Jaime and Brienne's conversation in the Harrenhal bath tub. I haven't caught up to it in the books yet, so have no idea how that goes, but in the TV series, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau portrayed Jaime beautifully. I didn't believe I would ever feel sorry for the Kingslayer, but I did!

I ended up basing my Jaime Lannister on a mix of book/imagination Jaime and then bits of Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's portrayal kept creeping in as well. I was surprised how hard Brienne was, given I only did the back of her head! It wasn't easy to get hold of reference images from that angle, and I realised I didn't actually know what the back of people's hair looks like well enough to draw it without!

I hope you like this, please feel free to critique, I would love to hear what you think

I agree that this was one of the most moving scene in Game of Thrones. Jaime is one of my favorite characters because he changes so much from the beginning. Brienne is another favorite because she's just so different from most of the other women. She takes her prescribed gender role and says: No thank you I want a sword.

Onto the artwork.

I love the coloring and shading done. It's spectactular. The water is also done very well. You have just enough detail in it to give the effect of water. The background columns are possibly my favorite part as they are done so well. The work on the hair is also spectacular. You did not do that bad for the back of Brienne's head, you may have made her face a little too short and round judging by the cheekbones but it's not really that off. Her spine looks a bit too pronounced unless that is supposed to be water dripping down. If so it would need a bit more shine/transparency to it. Her shoulders are a bit uneven but mostly this is due to that her left shoulder curves too harshly and creates a shelf instead of a slope. As for Jaime his anatomy is very well done. His mouth is a little too small for his face in my opinion. You've definitely managed to make him look weary and haggard which fits as he's been through hell before this scene takes place and is still quite in hell.

I love Brienne for that reason-she does what she wants to do, and doesn't let other people define her! But she still has a heart and feelings, she's not just some tough warrior women-she's a person too!

Thanks for your lovely comment! I'm glad you liked the water-it was new to me! Likewise with the background, I tend to chicken out of drawing them, so I'm glad you think it worked!

Your critique is spot on, I really needed to get some better references for Brienne-I was kind of making her back up as I went, and I think it has shown!

Jaime's mouth is too small, I think that isn't unique to this picture-it is a tendency I have when drawing mouths. I really need to work on that I force myself to think about it while drawing the mouth, and not just realising after I finished my art!

Thanks again for your comment, I really appreciate the thought that went into it!

I've only seen the first series of GoT and haven't read the books so I really have no clue what's going on in this scene.  But I think this is a beautiful piece.

I love the painting style--the colour palette you've selected is gorgeous and all of the hues offset each other beautifully.  Your depiction of the water is superb (I find water to be difficult to portray), and I very much like your drawing style too.  The anatomy looks nice and the way you do hair is really attractive.  I also appreciate that you based the characters on your own imagination

Brienne's back bothers me slightly.  I feel like her spine is too prominent and the musculature around the base of the neck doesn't look quite natural.  I also think there is something off about the slope of her right shoulder, which doesn't seem quite even with her left. To your credit, you have done well with a very challenging pose

Overall, it's a very captivating piece of work, and the issues I have with Brienne don't detract from the appeal of the piece.  I think this is lovely   Keep it up!

Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate the effort you put in!
You are right about Brienne, I think the issue revolves largely around the fact that the reference I was using had a top on, so too much guess work was involved in Brienne's back. Next time I'll be less lazy and get my anatomy book out and do it properly!
Thanks once again for your critique, its really helpful! ^^

Haha I struggled for so long with that, which seems so silly! I'm glad you think her back looks powerful, I did want to her to look strong
