OMG THE POKEMON GO CRAZE GOT ME I NEED TO DO MORE DOODLING GAAAAH

Anyway. this took a while to get the colors in - understandable, as one of the villagers that stayed with me in Animal Crossing: New Leaf was Phoebe, the ridiculously-brightly-colored phoenix (though, for game mechanics purposes she's actually an ostrich). The hot colors, elaborate looking house and big-sis personality all meshed so well - she came out as a force to be reckoned with here and one that clearly had to fight to get to where she was. And as phoenixes can just revive themselves, you can't help but think she's got guts stacked up to the moon or something.

To match her character, the best way I felt I could draw her was to get her at a pit of hot lava. My original intention was to get her to dive into it, but references were difficult to find and her wings made me just try and give her a bit of a 'swan dive' approach, though ultimately this is looking more like she's flying over lava instead. I'll let you guys interpret this! I am however very happy with not only all the colors coming together (figuring out the tail feathers were a fun challenge!) but also with the background elements as well; this is one that had more mood to it with the more elements I put in. I also surprised myself when I tried to blur the cliffs but having noted the other effects were on different layers, this did however create more of a subtle surface light and turned out pretty cool.

I'll keep pushing myself as long as I actually put down that dang phone, haha......
