"The foe's Pokémon flinched!"

This is an illustration for Game-Art-HQ 's Pokémon Generation IV tribute!  They've still yet to finalize the gallery for Generation III, but being a part of it as well as their first two were great fun.  There's no way I'd skip the trip to Sinnoh, right?  Anyway, progress is rolling on the second slots, so check out the journal if you're interested:

After the madness that is working on that Samba de Amigo image for their Dreamcast tribute, I felt more than keen to finish off what I started with Gible.  I picked this one mostly because its final form of Garchomp was deadly whenever I had one in my team - but it's not slacker on its own either.  Its neutral typing of Ground-Dragon allows it to not take too much damage around most types, and it's also worth using in Little Cup conditions as a Stealth Rock user.  It eats up damage and - if it has the Rough Skin ability - lets others get hit back before making a move itself.  Pretty deadly for a little sand shark!

One new dragon move introduced in this generation is Dragon Rush.  Both this and the Dratini line had access to it in the Sinnoh games, and while it's not an accurate move, it does have a boosted chance of flinching the target if it lands.  I personally would prefer to use it over Draco Meteor mostly due to its line's emphasis on physical attack, and it feels good to get the opponent stuck in a flinching loop!

The way I interpreted the move is similar to the animé, where the dragon itself would get enveloped in blue fire while charging at the opponent.  The hardest part was figuring out which angle to draw, as I wanted an emphasis on the fin but also didn't want to be directly straight onto its side.  Ultimately I learnt there was no way I can get both eyes in and the fin's angle at the same time, so I just stuck with the view here.  If it made Gible feel more like the Flash when doing that running charge, then so be it - I can't complain!  Still enjoyed doing it though, and the benefits of doing a speedy project piece made me feel equally keen to be speedy with a smaller work!

Pokémon is a franchise put together by the folk at Nintendo.  I drew this!
