Note to myself: I should stop saying I get more active again. A lot can happen. (Like the very last school week and other things to organize)


It needs some time until the warnigs arrive in the mines deep in the mountain...this time, the beast was faster.


I sat longer on this than I wanted, I guess it were about 3.5h. I always wonder to which point I can still call a work a speed painting, I always decide this on how I worked and how much detail I add...

I worked again primarly with the lasso tool in the beginning and did the rest with brushes and added two gradient maps in the end.

Photoshop used.

Thanks for having a look! I mostly painted it in smaller size and there's a lack of detail because it stayed as a speedpainting, so it makes sense when it looks better as thumbnail.

To be honest, I thought about that as well. Okay, it sounds strange now 'cause I painted it, but it was mainly a contrast thing: Making it lighter and slightly golden in colour to add a movement. I didn't thought what it should be exactly, but water is the best fitting, I guess.

I really like the use of the dark colours in this. Gives it a bleak feeling for the miners as Smuag finds them. I am developing a writing app called Daily Prompt that utilises written and visual prompts to inspire stories and poems and Smaug's Arrival would be really a really awesome setting for established universe stories. Would you be interested in having this feature as a prompt? We only ask for permission to feature it and add all credits you want in the app and on IG.
