May 13 - The Six SwansAn evil stepmother turns the six princes from the king’s first marriage into swans, and they can only be free from the spell if their sister makes them each a shirt out of starwort and neither speak or laugh for six years. When she is to be burned at a stake (for crimes she didn’t commit), she finishes the shirts and throws them into the air at the swans. In one version, she didn’t finish the arm of the last shirt, so the youngest prince lived out his days with a swan’s wing.

I read a different version of this fairy tale, without the burning at the stake or the unfinished shirt. this is far more interesting : P
