I love this pic, and I agree with you 100% and then some. And it's not just insulting to poor Anders either, my poor Warden would never... ever have allowed Templars (or any other group for that matter) to behave in such a way that her wardens felt threatened to the point where they had to enter a partially unwanted symbiotic relationship with another being, and then Β fake their own death to cover up a self defense based manslaughter. It would never have been allowed! Β What happened to "once you drink from the goblet your old life is over"???Β
ANd she gave him the damned cat! She would NEVER make him get rid of it
Gah, makes me angry even after all this time lol.Β
I digress, I love the pic, and please know that while we may be shouted down on a lot of forums, you are not alone in your views about this character and his plot over the two games.Β

:C Awakening Anders just wanted a drink, a pretty girl, and the right to shoot lightning at fools. How that led to him losing all pretension of sense and sanity and merging with a single-minded Spirit and becoming focused on "mages, mage rights! Templars, hate Templars, bastards, all", I can't even begin to fathom. And as a writer, I should really be able to.
Not to mention, the Wardens as described by DA2 Anders (pretty much an entirely different character, when you face facts) make no sense against the Wardens as we get to know them in Origins. Made him get rid of Ser Pouncealot, indeed.
I'm going to cut myself off here before I go on ranting tangentially about the astounding abundance of blood mages in a single city and just say yes, I agree with you.

Buuh, as has been said on DA2's forums, the game's storyline was ridden in plotholes anyway. Worst comes to worst, you can probably just treat DA2 like an AU or reboot (that's how some people are interpreting it as, haha!). The concept of 'Janders' doesn't seem to be getting a lot of good feedback from fans -- but with any luck, Bioware will at least find some common ground to level with them. I think first thing's first, they need to get Gaider back on writing him. No offense to Hepler, the new gal who wrote him but she just didn't capture his character all that well, period. Anders and Justice are potrayed as split personalities in the game. There's no reason why we shouldn't have saw more of what was his character, not to mention his motivations for going to Kirkwall had several plotholes in them.
Bah. IMO, they shouldn't have used characters that were optional recruits in the last game to carry the weight of a central focal point in the story. The concept of Janders relies on the Grey Warden actually recruiting both of them, but what if a player didn't in their playthrough? See what mean? Plothole. Excellent picture by the way, I love the way this is colored, Anders makes me wanna smile too and I fully agree with your sentiments. Bioware better get their act together -- with Anders, hell, with the series in general. Otherwise Awakening might just be the last game I regard as canon, haha! Faved!

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person that can't get behind this 'new Anders'. I could write an essay on why I don't like Anders in DA2 and how it's not even the same character as before.
*sighs*
Awakening Anders will always be in my heart as well, Spicy Shimmy and all.

But at least he put out milk for the kitties at his clinic...but it's not the same. Come back adorable sarcastic Anders, we love you! ^_^
